Violence and Crime Throughout the world, every place has some form of sexual crime. Sexual crimes are defined by Mancini (2021) as crimes that involve rape, statutory rape, sexual battery, sexual assault, child sexual abuse, incest, public indecency or exposure. These crimes are constantly evolving and growing, especially as society grows due to changes based on technologies and other societal factors such as biology, environment, progression of society and more. All of these crimes fit into different typologies, some of which can fit into multiple different ones. The biological framework is one of the most complex. Within this framework, there is an exploration of hormones, neurological and physiological implications, and overall genetic propensities behind sexual crimes. The biological framework is one in which certain traits are developed. An example of a trait that is developed in regards to sex crimes and biology would be sexual preferences. In the biological framework, hormones are examined. Stated by Mancini (2021), testosterone can lead to aggression in males, especially in a sexual manner. Looking at the consideration of hormones in connection to sexual crimes, it is clear where we can see the possibility of testosterone making males more sexually enraged. As well, looking at the biological framework, there is more at play than just hormones. It is vital to look at brain development and characteristics. Hale (1997) states “rape is thought to be a symptom of some deeply rooted abnormality, either cognitive or organic.” This abnormality shows up in the development and characteristics of the brain.
