I find that science subjects fit with my inquisitive and questioning nature. Knowing that a process happens is not enough, I must understand why it happens, what causes it, and how the science behind it works. This is why I find Biomedical Science so interesting; the push not only to make new scientific discoveries, but to enhance scientific understanding, improving lives as a consequence. The molecular, cellular and pathological areas of science are some of the most rapidly evolving areas of research and industry of the 21st century, and it is this continuous evolution which fascinates me and compels me to study a Biomedical Science course at a higher level. In order to further develop my scientific mind, I completed a work experience placement in a laboratory setting at a local aggregates firm. The scientific approach in this environment urged me even more to pursue a future in science. My placement heightened not only my understanding of scientific testing and procedures, but also boosted my confidence, communication and IT skills, all things which I have continued to improve at since the placement, and will bring with me to university. My fascination for Biology and the sciences is visible from my A Level subjects, which all required vast amounts …show more content…
Throughout Year 12, I dedicated an hour a week of my study periods to help teach a Year 8 German class alongside the teacher. I found this role very rewarding, especially as I was able to work with a few individuals more closely, and could see the progress which they made throughout the year whilst working with me. I felt that this opportunity especially strengthened my ability to explain a concept to someone else, which I found to really solidify my own understanding of the topics. These are all skills which I will find priceless during university study, and which I hope will enhance my studies in higher
