Americans check their phone over 8 billion times in total. Some argue this generation is unaware of what go on around them. Is this true? Are people too focused on social media? We’re really more concerned about the Kardashians rather than what goes on in Iraq? This generation is more informed, because they have access to the internet to search what they want, and use social media to stay informed, they also are aware of what goes on in the “outside world,” and everyone goes to school, unlike the past generations.

But this is the exact way the Black Lives Matter movement earned its notoriety, from a small Facebook page. According to Audrey James, from Jones College, “We are a generation that is completely aware of everything going on.” The public might not know, but the next generations are going to be even more informed of everything. These next generations are going to stand out, especially with the advances in technology, and educational purposes. According to Paul Booth, an associate professor at DePaul University, “It’s only in the past hundred years or so that children and teenagers would have had free time to become engaged with the world around them. For many years, people went to school and then went to work, and the idea that you might have free time to spend on media-or-technology-related issues would be laughable!” What more could be said? Some people did not even have an education in past generations, which definitely makes past generations look bad. Past generations also did not have access to all the technology the world has today. Could people somehow resolve the idea of constantly looking down at their phones and take a look around, to get an even better perspective as to what goes on in their town or city, and maybe take a break on social media?
