Response Paper #1 The Book of Genesis tell the story of the creation of the world in an unquestionable manner according the Hebrew scholars who penned it all those years ago. It contains many inconsistencies, leading many biblical authorities to believe that the account is the work of more than one author. It also contains for example the “(T)he list of the descendants of Adam” (5:1) amongst others that conveys that these are tales old before their compilation in the current structure.
The central theme of the Book of Genesis discusses the ordering of the world around a system of analogy and differences. Light illuminates darkness, bodies of land separate the waters, A more intricate development of analogy and differences takes place with the creation of man. This in fact becomes way of life for the Israelites. These laws are transmitted via tales to Moses from God, and from Moses to his people. Exodus demonstrates the distinctive pseudonyms God takes for himself as well as the multitude of manifestations in which he reveals himself to his people. These exhibitions display God’s power to the Israelites, who are decidedly unfaithful to his word and worship. This culminates with the worship of the Golden Calf at the feet of Mount Sinai. In consequence God appears in his final incarnation, in the Tabernacle, particularly in the Ark of the Covenant, the receptacle in which God’s essence will abide. The Ark is symbolic of Gold’s presence amongst the people, central to their nation, and portable whereby it may be transferred anywhere the Israelites
