The time zone is 1939, time of the Holocaust was occurring. This fantastic event would impact the character in many different ways. For example, when we are introduced to the main character she wasn't in such a good place. She was getting on a train with her mother and younger brother for a reason that might be so her mother can give them up to their foster parents. However before they could reach their new home, a great tragedy has become of Liesel (the main character). Liesel brother had passed.
