The book Night is about a twelve-year-old boy that grew up in Transylvania which is a small town. Elie studied Talmud but he wanted to learn Kabbalah. His father found out that the Nazi got control over Hungary. The Nazi’s started to evacuate the Jews out of Transylvania, and started loading them all into the cattle cars.
Elie Wiesel, the author of Night, was born in a town of Sighet, Transylvania, which is now known as Romania, in the year 1928 of September 30th. Elizer had three sisters and was pursuing Jewish religious studies at a nearby yeshiva, before failing to flee the country for safety from the Nazi Germany Soldiers. At the age of 15, he, along with his family and the entire Jewish population, were expelled from their hometowns and were forced to relocate to concentration camps. Due to this outcome, Elie and his father were separated from his mother and sister and was deported to a concentration camp in Auschwitz in 1944. They were later transferred to a “very good camp,” called Buna in Buchenwald.
While reading the book Night by Elie Wiesel, one of the things I learned about was the jews living conditions. I read about Elie living them with many other jews and it stuck out to me because how could a person live like that and stay alive? Every jew that was caught was sent to a concentration camp and had a total different way of lifestyle when being held there. Another thing that stuck out while reading the book was the SS officers. The SS officers are Hitler's protective unit.
In the book Night, the author describes his life being a prisoner for the Nazis. In this book, we are described with how Eli survived and what he and his father went through. We learn about how the prisoners were treated in the concentration camps. In the next two paragraphs, I will be sharing my opinion on what I think are the two most terrifying experiences the author, Eli, had to endure.
The Holocaust was a very traumatic event for everyone who experienced it and those who came after, and it gave many people experience, trauma, and disorders that they should never have had. Those of us who did not personally experience the pain will never know what those Jews went through in those camps, but Maus and Night share the experiences and horrors that millions of Jews had to live through. Maus is a survivor tale that tells the author, Artie Speigelmen’s father’s experiences in the Holocaust and his retelling through a graphic novel. Night is an autobiography written by Elie Wiesel that recounts the experiences of a teenager in a concentration camp during the Holocaust. The death march in Night by Elie Wiesel is started when all the prisoners were forced to leave the camp that they were at and relocate to a new camp. The night was very cold and snowy, and Elie’s foot was already hurt because of some pus that was in it. His only choice was to go on with the march on a hurt foot or stay in the camp and probably die anyways. He decided to go on the march because he wanted to be with his father and he didn’t want to die helplessly. At around six at night, the entire camp lines up in formation and they all started marching block by block.
The book Night, is very upsetting to most people, but it talks about an actual view of somebodies experience in World War Two, and how things actually were. World War Two, was the most destructive conflict in history. It lasted from 1939-1945, Adolf Hitler (the Leader of the Nazi’s) was determined to pretty much invade Poland, and they did. Two days later, France and Britain declared war on Germany. That is when the war broke out.
The book Night is a autobiography told from Elie Wiesal’s perspective. It talks about his experience with his father in the Nazi German concentration camps at Auschwitz and Buchenwald in 1944-45. Wiesel writes about how his faith is degrading to the point he believes there is no God, and how he is disgusted at humanity. The book starts in Sighet, Romania, You learn about Moshe the Beadle who is a poor man, but very religious. He was expelled like the rest of the Jews onto a cattle train and taken to Poland.
“Never shall I forget those flames which consumed my faith forever. Never shall I forget those moments which murdered my God and my soul and turned my dreams to dust,” (Wiesel, 1960, p.32). After seeing what was going on at Auschwitz, Elie had began to lose his faith in his God. Certain experiences of hardship and kindness can change their life.
Broken, imbruted, and barbaric are a few words that could be used to describe the effects the Holocaust had on its many victims. Though many Jews lost their humanity during the mas genocide that was the Holocaust, a man named Eliezer Wiesel refused. Throughout the novel Night, Elie recollects how even through such horrifying hardships he keeps his humanness. In Night, Elie’s rivetingly miraculous memoir of the Holocaust, Elie displays how easily the human soul is destroyed. Elie also shows that despite the fragility of human nature, its longevity can be increased through family, faith, and the will to live.
In class we read the nonfiction book, Night by Elie Wiesel. It is a story about Elie, as a young teen, being a victim of the Holocaust and the gruesome situations he been in. In the book Elie says, “The world is not interested in us” (Wiesel 33). I believe that this statement is true. The world did not do anything to save the Jewish people and just observed them being treated like objects.
