Hunger Games The book entitled Hunger Games is a science fiction, adventure novel written by the American writer named Suzanne Collins. The protagonist, heroine and narrator, Katniss Everdeen, is a 16-year-old woman, trying to provide for her little sister and mother after her father was killed in a mining accident. Katniss’ life is not always gratifying, gambling her life in hunting outside of District Twelve’s fence. This illegal act of hunt and trespassing is the only way for Katniss to tolerably feed her family. The fact that the majority of people in District Twelve do not have adequate food is not the only concern that Katniss has about her district: “District Twelve. Katniss is not just saving her folks, but she also desire for her whole nation to be free from tyrannical oppression of government and poverty, stand up to the injustices around her. The story is futuristic where countries have been destroyed and replaced by 12 districts (13 districts before but were dissolved due to uprising) under the control of capitol. To measure its control, and for the entertainment of the capitol, they organize games each year for 24 helpless children, 2 of each district, have to fight to death in a arena filled with dangerous animals and cruel tactics to destroy them. The winner will be televised, tribute remain all in their lives tied to the capitol and its murderous president. She addresses how can political violence are extremely inefficacious, insufficient, and abusive. Hence, hunger games is a book for young people to understand the consequences or dangers of extreme power and imagine what our world would be in this kind of political system. Waking up the minds of youth to do everything to prevent such extremely abusive form of government to occur. This book is a thumb up and highly recommendable, especially for the young people. This will provide them broader knowledge interrelated with their own society, an eye open curiosity to bear their minds on their governmental issues and the unjust social hierarchy. Also, what I like about this book is that albeit it doesn’t gave political solution, it made an impact to me that every government has its flaws and can never be perfect.
