In the book “Migra! A History of the U.S Border Patrol, author Kelly Lytle Hernandez describes the history of the U.S border patrol from the 1920s to the end of the twentieth century. Specifically, Hernandez writes about how the border patrol has changed its target or “suspect” from Chinese and European immigrants to Mexican people. In her book and through research of unexamined old material in the U.S and Mexico, Hernandez examines how Mexicans emerged as the United States “iconic illegal aliens” (Hernandez Pg. 2). In this paper I will examine Hernandez discussion of long term effects of border patrol discourses and practices in creating a prototypical suspect as well as compare her argument with that of Samual P. Huntington in his
US Entry Waiver You cannot enter the United States of America if you have a criminal record in your past. The only way to enter the US with a criminal record is if you have the appropriate immigration status or if you have U.S. Entry Waiver. There may have been instances in the past where you or someone you knew with a criminal record got in to the United States without any issues but now the chances of that happening are reducing. Now the INS (U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service) does not only ask a few general questions about your citizenship and the purpose of your visit. They conduct an RCMP search which is basically a computer search for a criminal record.
The exclusive geography of Greater Appalachia and the settlers’ opposition to oppression developed the identity of the region and its inhabitants, which emphasized personal honor and individual liberty. As shown on a resource map of Greater Appalachia, the topography of the region excluded the inhabitants, who were known as Borderlanders, from acquiring necessary resources, such as forests or fish. The Borderlands did not have many resources at hand; items such as timber or oil were more commonly found in the Deep South (Glencoe). Additionally, as mentioned by Colin Woodward in American Nations, “With no roads, trade was almost entirely by barter” (Woodward 104). Because of limited resources and roads, the geography of Greater Appalachia prevented the
Mexico and Canada and the coastal waters around Florida and Puerto Rico make up approximately 8,000 miles borders that the USBP has to patrol. With the significant geographic, political, and immigration-related differences between Canada and the Mexico. The USBP has to employ a very diverse mix of personnel and resources along these regions. Almost 98.7% of illegal vagrant detentions by the USBP take place along the US-Mexican border, over 85% of the deployed agents go to this area to deter illegal immigration (Haddal, 2010). The Canadian Border, despite being half of the approximate distance patrolled, there are low numbers of illegals attempting to cross into the United States, paints a picture of a small threat area.
The United States was a growing, prosperous nation in the 1800’s. They were the shining example of democracy and freedom for citizens. As people watched the US grow, they wanted to be a part of a great country. Immigrants flooded in from everywhere around the world to become American citizens as shown in Document A where the US was compared to Noah’s ark and shows immigrants escaping taxes, kings and opression. The American citizens began to express frustration with the overwhelming amount of immigrants coming to the United States.

The 19th century was, by every definition of the word, a simultaneously onerous and distressing time in Europe. Empires and regimes collapsed like dominos, one after the other. Mass famine, caused by factors as extensive and diverse as severe climate abnormalities to colossal, all-out wars, led to the suffering and death of many. With farmers no longer financially independent, poverty reared its ugly head. The utter lack of any kind of political or religious freedom was widely conspicuous.
Australian Border Force Act defines an “entrusted person” as anyone working directly or indirectly for the Department of Immigration and Border Protection, this is inclusive of doctors and nurses, teachers, psychologists, counsellors, security staff, patience workers or anyone who has signed a government contract (Comlaw.gov.au, 2015). In Australia these same professionals are legally obligated to alert authorities if they witness or believe a child is in danger of being abused (Child Family Community Australia, 2015), as of July 1 2015, the workers are continuously faced with ethical dilemmas as they have a ultimatum; not report child abuse or face jail time. Outline the nature and policy relevance of policy topic: The Australian Border
Imagine that you are walking when suddenly you come across a twenty-foot wall in the middle of your path. It is made of steel and concrete with security cameras perched along the top. You look at it and realize that there is not a way for you to cross this wall, so you turn around and head back in the direction that you came, back to the job and the life you know. On the other side of the wall a similar person approaches, but then turns away and goes back to their life. Neither one of you comes into contact with the other but you go back to the life you know, not interrupting or endangering the other’s life.

My family immigrated here the year before I was born. Starting with nothing in a new world, my parents taught me to be conservative from an early age. My first mantra was “Be creative and make do with what you have”. I helped my mother plant gardens using the compost from our trash. I picked up bottles on the street to recycle for money.
For My Safety And Yours Concealed weapons are in today's society considered useless and a nuisance. The fact of the matter is that they actually have a huge role to play. Concealed weapons provide many benefits like protection, crime deflation, also the requirements of a state's requirements to obtain a permit are useful.
Going into this interview project I was curious to learn more about the experiences that immigrants had to go through. My interviewee, Mario, is an 18 year old immigrant that migrated to America from Bolivia at the age of 10. I have known Mario since middle school and we’ve been friends since then. We have grown up around the same area too and now we both attend the University of Maryland.
