Throughout life, there are times when you just need to keep going. In the memoir “Born a Crime” by Trevor Noah, Noah showcases many examples of this, as he keeps pushing through life, despite the many obstacles and hardships he's been through such as violence, racism, and poverty. In 1948, the National Party, a ruling political party in South Africa, installed apartheid. Apartheid was a set of laws infused with segregation and racial discrimination against non-white citizens of South Africa. In the memoir “Born a Crime” by Trevor Noah, the author uses humor, optimism, and perseverance to cope with the hardships in his life. Humor was one of the biggest tools used by Noah to overcome and cope with the harsh realities he faced. In addition, Noah’s relentless optimism is evident throughout the book, as he maintains a positive attitude even in the toughest of situations. When he talks about his struggles with poverty, he still manages to see the silver linings in life by appreciating small things. For instance, Noah described his love for books, which he often read and he would also “play with the toy he had- his imagination.” He goes on to say he would sit and entertain himself for hours on end with his imaginary worlds. This optimism inspires others to see beyond their hardships and cherish even the smallest things. Additionally, Noah’s perseverance shines in the memoir as he faces many obstacles and adversity he encounters. An example is when he describes his journey to becoming a comedian, despite all the odds being stacked against
