People from the Harlem Renaissance Louis Armstrong was born on August 4, 1901. “His dad worked in a factory. Right after Louis was born, he left his family.” Louis began working when he was in the fifth grad, therefore he had to quite school. His job was delivering coal (“Louis Armstrong”).
As a prospective member of the Masters of Arts in History program at Liberty University I hope to accomplish several things. I am currently serving as a high school history teacher and this program will benefit both my students and myself alike in the foreseeable future. This includes reaching the goals of earning my master’s degree which will result in a higher level of professional knowledge in my content area, while increasing my income simultaneously. This is not the only positive factor, Liberty’s program will also contribute directly to growth in regards to my relationship with Jesus Christ.
As I think of the University of Mississippi, the aspect that most impresses me, and is an addition to my desire to immerse myself in this prominent learning community is the University's outstanding resources. I am very attracted to the opportunity to explore and learn at the University of Mississippi's science departments. Science has been my academic passion ever since I entered middle school. Since then, I have always wanted to get into the medical field to become a neurologist. I believe the brain is a black box with endless mysteries waiting to be explored.
I come from a lower, middle class family. Both of my parents are employed full time but do not make enough income to supply the $20,000 it takes to attend Missouri State. They have always encouraged me to want more for myself, both in my career and in my life in general. Although I am still deciding on a major, I know that I want to make enough money to live comfortably and be able to provide for my family.
I have chosen to apply to Covenant College because I seek a deeper relationship with the Lord that transcends into every area of my life, and I believe that I can facilitate that growth with the Christ-centered curriculum and community Covenant has to offer. I see the importance of being a witness to Christ at a secular university, but during my college education I want to better equip myself to proclaiming Christ in my profession and day-to-day living. Throughout the next formative years of my life, it is important to me to surround myself with young people who serve the Lord. Encouraged by conversations with my admissions counselor and information on the website, I believe I will easily mesh into the dynamic that exists at Covenant and cultivate lasting relationships. In addition, I tremendously value access to nature.
All along, I have managed to maintain the principles of ethics and integrity, a strong sense of purpose, and morality, which binds me rigidly. Appointment as student leader in all stages of my school and college life has presented me with opportunity to interact with people, develop organizational and communication skills. My involvement with speech, debate and sports has made me more than just an academic person In the pursuit of excellence and with a passion to reach the highest skills in my discipline, I look upon University of Texas, Arlington a springboard to accomplish my dreams. This esteemed institution can serve as a ladder and enable me to achieve higher aims by providing me the most contemporary input and exposure.
As a child, I was never aware of my family’s financial struggles. My parents divorced when I was 12 and money became the central issue in my life. I found myself worrying about mortgages, health bills, and grocery money at a very young age. As I continued to grow, I vowed to myself that I would not struggle financially the way my parents had to. I want to escape the socioeconomic status I was born into, which is why I am pursuing a post-secondary education.
What captivated me to apply? My answer: it’s New York University!!! NYU is located in the heart of the world and it is “the place” to experience, learn, and meet diverse and open-minded people. Additionally, the institution's global network empowers its students to make an impact in the world and I want to be a part of it. The school’s alumni connections with law firms will facilitate the chance of landing an internship at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP.
Membership in Ball State University's Honors College presents an opportunity for me to be surrounded by peers who share a similar commitment to academic excellence. I am eager to build beneficial connections with like-minded students who take their education seriously. Furthermore, I look forward to interacting with professors who will challenge me to grow to my full potential. I believe that this stimulating and rigorous academic environment will push me to excel academically and personally.
When I applied to Boston College I did not have an understanding of what being a Jesuit university meant and I definitely did not realize the impact that would have on my undergraduate career. I am fortunate to have gotten the opportunity to learn about and embrace the Jesuit values and this has played a large role in shaping the person I have become since I walked on to campus 3 years ago. My curiosity took over immediately upon starting at Boston College and I began my quest to educate myself on the culture that accompanies a Jesuit education. Through this I uncovered a whole new world and a Jesuit spirit that I believe will always be with me. I was raised in a family that was not very religious and prior to starting college
Fast-forward to the year 2022. The nonprofit tutoring organization I started as a sophomore in high school, which supports low-income families in the Chicagoland area, can expand due to the resources and experiences NYU has imparted to me as an undergraduate student. NYU’s commitment to research in financial fields, social internship opportunities, and a global academic scope allow for me to not only continue a dream I began at fifteen, but to open my eyes to new ways of approaching problems. To begin with, NYU enriches opportunities beyond the classroom by offering hands-on initiatives, such as the Stern Program for Undergraduate Research, which gives me the opportunity to utilize the vast resources available in New York City to conduct
The countless opportunities available at Brown University for me to learn in a flexible academic environment is exactly what I desire and need. Brown’s programs not only let me dive deep into the concentrations that I am most passionate about, but also let me explore outside of my interests, exposing myself to a variety of environments and experiences, especially with the open curriculum. Besides focusing on biology, I aspire to explore varieties of fields, including Korean culture. As a Korean individual, I want to learn about the culture not only in the familial setting, but also in a classroom setting, comparing the two perspectives. Ethical subjectivism, also known as moral subjectivism, is a philosophical theory. This approach supports euthanasia in the sense of allowing the truth and rights of an individual to remain at a different level. Ethical subjectivism is a theory that suggests that moral truths are determined at an individual level, therefore making it your reality. Euthanasia is the painless killing of an aggressively tormented dying patient. I believe that euthanasia must be legal, and I agree with the whole logic and the procedure.
The subjects taught in the arts and history section of liberal arts programs across the universities in America revolve around the importance of culture and an ethical understanding of how the world works. This not only helps in self-development but also in the growing job industry where an understanding of ethics and communication plays an equally important role as the skills involving the job. Per Robert Thompson Jr., “Practical liberal education reflects the intentional integration of the traditional liberal education focus on developing intellectual and personal skills with the traditional professional and technical focus on solving complex problems” (2014). Moreover, history, art and political studies impart the ideas regarding the progression of human civilization and tradition. In times of globalization there is a greater need for us to understand the relationship that exists between countries of varying political standing.
The heart of New York City is New York University. By joining the network of NYU, I will be able to study at an institution that has a long tradition of academic excellence among private universities in the United States. Additionally, I will be able to be part of an internationally recognized learning network with locations all across the globe. It would be a pleasure to study at a globally recognized university. A friend of mine who is a recent graduate from NYU College of Nursing has praised the program and conveyed to me a very positive experience.
