Sam Baxter Ms. Patrick English 9-6 20 January 2023 Brutality in All-American Boys Readers often times cannot relate to situations in books, whether they be bizarre, make-believe fictional stories, or real things that happen to people. The solution is to use stylistic techniques to help readers understand what characters are going through and highlight their struggles in a relatable way. The book All-American Boys by Jason Reynolds and Brendan Kiely uses various stylistic techniques to develop a brutal tone. The tone of brutality is created by using such techniques as sentence structure, sensory details, and simile.
Pacing in Kaffir Boy The excerpt from Kaffir Boy is a prime example of different pacing techniques. The author, Mark Mathabane, uses long sentences with lots of detail for the slow paced parts. One example of this is “They slept in abandoned cars, smoked glue and benzene, ate pilchards and brown bread, sneaked into the white world to caddy and, if unsuccessful, came back to the township to steal beer and soda bottles from shebeens, or goods from the Indian traders on First Avenue.”
Whether we want to or not, we all remember our first cars. Small, slow, clunky, and sometimes a little rusty, they usually lacked a level of sophistication. They got us to work, school, and home again and provided a level of freedom that we had never enjoyed before. For that, we all retain fond memories; however, we all know that, when given the choice, we would have chosen to drive the coolest car on the market, especially when we have people to impress. Chevrolet’s “Boy Meets Impala” commercial of 1958 plays on this scenario, featuring strong pathos, connection to a specific audience, important contextual ties, and persuasive content meant to encourage families to purchase the new Impala convertible.
Women’s and girl’s rights are caused by so many reasons and have influenced most girl’s future to be unpleasant and their dreadful reality. In Girls Rising by Tanya Lee Stone, the author points out that poverty are one of the causes why girls can’t go to school. It states this: ‘Poverty plays a huge role because when they are poor, children and families cannot afford education for their children. They only think that boys can learn and are stronger than girls. That is why they only pay for their sons’ (Stone 67).
Introduction Richard Weissbourd, director of the Human Development and Psychology master’s program at Harvard, put forth his views on the morals of American children. In his essay, “Moral parent, moral child: Family structure matters less to a child's development than the quality of the parenting,” he argues that children are not less likely to have good moral standards if raised in a single parent home. His claim is that parents are in charge of distilling moral values in their children. He feels the government has sorely overlooked the necessity of its role in fostering better parents through education. His idea is stated here, “This country desperately needs to provide high-quality parent-education programs through hospitals and various
Although there is many examples of sexism in this children’s book, towards the end the author shows gender equality. The teachers were telling the students the consequences. Teachers were enforcing the consequences towards both genders in order for them to be treated equal, they must treat each other kindly otherwise, and there will be consequences. Not only are boys seen as the dominant characters, girls are portrayed as weak and subordinate compared to them. Girls are only in the story for “moral support” of the main boy characters or his parents.
”In developing countries, adolescent girls are more likely to drop out of secondary school than boy, particularly in ritual areas” (Girls & Women Rights). An example of this is Malala who was shot because she fought for her education, and is now looked at as one of the smartest humans in the world which is extremely threatening to men. Females fear men openly, men fear females but try to beat them down to have the same beliefs as themselves so they can’t do something equivalent or better than
The report makes it very clear that many young people are being treated wrong because of their race, which unacceptable. Education is essential in everyone's life; someone's race shouldn't change the way they are being treated. Equality in educational is something that needs major improvement. As with women, even though it's not a big issue in America, it's a big issue in other countries. According to the UNESCO Institute of Statistics, 31 million girls of primary school age do not attend school and 17 million of these girls will probably never attend school in their lifetimes.
Raising Boys to be Men The most difficult subjects can be explained to the most slow-witted man if he has not formed any idea of them already; but the simplest thing cannot be made clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he knows already, without a shadow of doubt, what is laid before him. Leo Tolstoy We are living in a culture that is redefining everything; morals, history, values, beliefs, what's right and wrong and what a family looks like. Because of this, boys and how they should be raised has gotten caught in the middle of the redefinition as gender roles and gender biology itself comes into question. Everywhere you look somebody has an opinion about how boys should be raised.
Through this critique it is important to consider that, “boys can rebel against them [the norms and stereotypes of being a man] and revise the code for boys and girls so that they can experience a broad range of feelings and behaviors.” (Pollack, 25) Accepting weakness and failure is now something people are getting used to and doing more often, however according to Pollack’s
In general, which respects to sex differences, Margaret Mead says that although many societies are different in the way that they treat men and women, every culture has some “societal” standards for each sex which distance from the biological differences (Henley and Thorne 43). It exists a global stereotype about women which is the low power they have in comparison to men in society since males tend to be more dominant and they try to have a figure of a ruler. “Women are often more supportive, polite, and expressive, talk more about home and family, and use more words implying feeling, evaluation, interpretation, and psychological state” (Adelaide Haas 616). Haas suggested four different aspects, such as, form, topic, content and use of the

1. Introduction Content, culture and context play a vital role in English language teaching, especially in countries where English is a foreign language. Thus, in order to bring some cultural knowledge and expose learners to more natural setting of English in use, teachers rely on TV shows such as Friends, Full house, The nanny, etc. which are popular American sitcoms from the 90’s. These kind of shows offer English teachers authentic materials to bring their learners into contact with language in context which can help them to identify various functions of a single utterance.
Establishing male supremacy is the mindset of a misogynist. This is specifically important because gender is constantly changing; when femininity alters and masculinity changes to compensate, always fluctuating based on the other gender. Constantly changing genders cause confusion, but change also brings awareness to the issues it causes. Recognition of the subordination of women has compromised the dominance of males leading to new forms of masculinity. Since women have begun to explore the “domains” of men, misogynists change what it means to be masculine to compensate.
