“What are the downstairs of disconnecting eschatology from our understanding the church?”
Brad Harper in his book Exploring Ecclesiology has been mention the dialectical relationship between the church and the eschatological kingdom. The author has been asking what is the function of the church a –via the kingdom of God? The author stated that the church is the doorway to the kingdom. He has stated that this connection is, perhaps most clearly attested in Jesus’s response to Peter’s confession in Matthew 16 and Luke 9. In Matthew, Peter confesses Jesus not only as Messiah, but also as the royal Son of King YHWH. The Coptic Church understanding of a biblical theology is salvation argues that salvation creates a community, “a people for God’s own possession” (62). Our community is not only about just saved individuals. Being a member in a Coptic Orthodox church is about having membership in the scatological community in order to enjoy the blessings of the kingdom. Moreover, my church has been providing a structure for shaping each one of its member since childhood. From 4 years old till 65 years old, Sunday school is served, Every Sunday after mass there are Sunday school service for all ages. In Sunday school there are lessons taught by teachers who has been certified to teach for this particular age. Throughout the world, every Coptic Orthodox church teach the same lesson for the same day. All the lessons and teaching style got to be determined through an internet system for all Coptic Orthodox Churches all over the world. Certain bishops are the ones who are responsible for controlling this internet system and choosing the right lessons for every age. Throughout the year, every child or adult learn different values and teaching lessons about Christianity by just attending Sunday school after the mass on Sundays. Paul has said in Romans 12:4-5“ For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. “This how we feel by the end of the year, Christians will notice that they have been learning the same things, and same lessons like everybody else who is Coptic around the world as big huge community sharing the learnings and the value of discipleship of the Lord
