Brazil's Education System In The United States

The education system in the United States is way different then many other countries. Do you ever wonder what it’s like to go to school in a different country? Would it be better or would it be worse? Well some countries top the list and some don’t. Brazil’s education system is not one of the best in the world but has special ways of dealing with the university, highschool and middle school education, and learning and studies.

Higher education in Brazil requires your completion of secondary school.

Federal and State universities are free for students but are very difficult to get into. In Brazil to enter a university you have to take an entrance exam called the Vestibular. There are many different required scores to get into different universities

Public education in Brazil limits the students and has poor quality. It limits their capabilities and adaptability. In 2013, it ranked fifth third out of sixty five countries in many subjects. There is a lack of money in which there aren’t enough elementary and secondary schools. Some students only attend school for four hours a day. Few teachers work full time (O'Neil).This is surprising because Private schools in Brazil have better education. Brazil spends 5 times more per college student then per elementary pupil. They should put more money into the elementary and secondary school because there isn’t enough room or teachers to teach the students. 72% of higher education students go to private institutions, private educations are focused on the professional aspect of jobs. Many people in Brazil are poor and don’t have good jobs but if you go to private institutions you have a better chance of going on to the higher education so you can get a degree and get a good job for yourself. More professional jobs like being a doctor, nurse, lawyer, and etc (“Brazil-Education”). This shows that private education is better than public education because it is focused on more important goals in life. Private educations are focused on meeting the professional requirements of the labor markets and programs to help meet the needs of the working population. Go to college and get a good job. In Brazil they start learning English in pre-kindergarten. The youngest students will benefit from a 100% English immersion program. They will build essential vocabulary by learning content in english (“The Brazilian Program”). This shows that Bilingualism is important in Brazil. It’s ultimate goal is to be able to transfer knowledge and skills to different cultures. They also teach Portuguese. They want students to obtain a balanced mastery of both languages. This would help them develop strong social skills in each language. A teacher in Brazil had discovered that over 30% of his middle school students were failing his class and decided to switch to blended learning and had noticed an improvement in their grades. Blended learning is a education program which combines online digital media with traditional classroom methods. It requires the presence of the teacher and student and gives the student partial control of their work (Bushko). This shows that blended learning can change education in many ways.
