FEATHERS OF HOPE Proverbs 13:12 ‘Hope deferred makes the heart sick: but when the desire comes, it is a tree of life.’ I have bad news and good news for you today. The story of Naomi recorded in Ruth chapter 1 is familiar to all of us. Naomi was a woman who while in Moab lost her husband Elimelek and soon after lost her two sons Mahlon and Chilion (Ruth ch.1 vs.3-5). As the story progresses we find that Naomi and Ruth returns to Bethlehem. There we see Naomi telling the people ‘Do not call me Naomi; call me Mara, for the Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me.’(Ruth ch.1, Vs.20). Isaiah 40:31 but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.’ Therefore where have you laid your hope? Is it in people? Your own abilities? Your job? If you have laid your hope in these things, here is what the Bible says to you ‘Then I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought, and on the labor that I had labored to do: and, behold, all was vanity and vexation of spirit, and there was no profit under the sun.’(Ecclesiastes 2:11). As the hymn writer says let our hopes be built on nothing than Jesus’ blood and righteousness because He is the solid rock and all other ground is sinking sand. Remember that those who look to the Lord will be radiant and their faces will never be ashamed. In every hopeless situation, let us remind ourselves that our treasures are not on this earth but are in heaven where moths do not destroy and where thieves do not break in and steal and when tempests rage in our lives let us boldly say ‘I can do all things through Christ Who strengthens
