The framework of NHS, the four pillars: scholarship, service, leadership, and character, brings a culture like no other of the best students in the school, and I'm personally so proud to say I'm an NHS member. I have upheld these pillars throughout my life through volunteer work with schools across CFISD and my community, and I hope to help others learn of these pillars through the officerial position of Social Media Chair.
The first canon of rhetoric is invention. Lori Moses defines invention as “the identification of the target audience so the message can be tailored to them, and the use of logical rationale to appeal to the needs, concerns, or desire of that audience” (Moses 59). Should Schools Monitor Students Social Media!?!? Have you ever showed up at school and had a friend or classmate tell you about a rumor directed towards you? I think schools should monitor students social media posts but, only if there seems to be problems occurring and disrupting the class. After watching Lara Setrakian from the Ted Talks “3 ways to fix a broken news industry” I immediately started brainstorming on the key facts I picked up on. Before undertaking the research needed for my posts/links I read Tutorial: Twitter for Journalists which allowed me to understand how to make a tweet and learn about the use of hashtags, “A “hash tag” is a word embedded in a tweet that starts with a “#” sign”. I then researched the topics I had brainstormed including: use of clickbait, creating fear in the public with uninformed news, Hippocratic oath, how news companies find what’s worth reporting, statistics on the reporting from global events in Western Society compared to Syria, Iran, and Iraq. Once the posts were done, I decided what I enjoyed sharing on Facebook when posting a link it automatically would come up with the image below the text which makes the posts more appealing to read.

The media diary allowed me to track my media uses for 3 days which revolved mostly around entertainment, communication, and relaxation. I would use these form of media throughout the day where it eventually became a routine to me check my social media apps, browse the internet, and listen to music, etc etc. What I found from my 3 days of tracking was I spent most of my time using my favorite media uses such as my social media apps. I noticed that entertainment heavily revolves around the reasons why I choose to use media for internet, television, and music. On the final day of tracking my media I thought cutting any of these media uses was going to be quite easy because I thought I didn’t rely highly on any of them.
