This written statement is for the purpose of communicating my intention to apply for the history master’s program at the University At Brockport.
I seek to continue onto the next phase in my progress as a historian and in my area of historical study. In order to do this I am pursuing a graduate’s education in history.
My main field of historical interest consists of 19th century American intellectual and social history, and the history of 19th century American reform movements. I am especially interested in the dynamics of thinking and influence which effected the formation and development of moral reform movements (ex. Abolitionism, Women’s Rights, Temperance, Prohibition), …show more content…

I have written papers on topics including the Grimke Sisters, the Abolitionist History of Allegany County, New York, and the role of land sales in the development of Western New York. Currently, I am writing an honor’s thesis on the history of the intellectual and social history of the temperance movement in 19th century Western New York, with a focus on discerning the major ethical and intellectual elements at work in its development.
I am seeking to develop a career as a professional historian, in an Academic and/or non-academic line of work. To this end, I am seeking an education which would enable me to be qualified in either type of historical work, and to be able to further pursue my historical research.
My current educational and historical experience has helped prepare me for this endeavor.
As mentioned, I am currently attending Alfred University. I am majoring in History, with a minor in Philosophy. I am currently working on my honor’s thesis in history. I currently have a 3.89 GPA, and have consistently been on the Dean’s List. I have been inducted into both Phi Alpha Theta and Phi Kappa Phi. I am expected to graduate in May
