Michelangelo loved art from a very young age. His father wanted him to learn grammar, but Michelangelo found the profession to be dull with no room for artistic ability. After going after a career as an artist, Michelangelo spent the last years of his life writing poetry. Some of these poems reflect the ideals that Michelangelo used to create art in the earlier days of his life. Michelangelo used divine inspiration from God to create his works. He was very spiritual compared to other renaissance artists and he wanted to find ways to put biblical concepts into his work. He wanted spiritual beings like God to have a human form as a way of communicating to the mortals on earth. This source was most helpful in giving me information on the later part of Michelangelo’s life. Since many of his artistic ideals were written down into poetry, they became essential to learning about his previous works. He created many famous works of art throughout his career. When hired to paint the Sistine chapel ceiling, he was extremely annoyed. He considered himself to be a sculptor first and painting was not part of the specialty. Although he accepted the job, he still felt annoyed by the back-breaking work it took to paint the ceiling. When finished, Michelangelo continued creating sculptors and paintings until the late period of his life where he stared focusing on poetry.
