Homelessness is huge issue in America. The homeless community in America is continually growing. Men, women, and children with all different circumstances scatter the street of our country. They are pushed aside and ignored as problems instead of people. Society as a whole tends to ridicule and demean them to be less than what they really are, human beings. America, a country so involved in foreign affairs, seems to have completely looked over the homeless community. Some government assistance is offered, but not nearly enough. Abuse victims are the receivers of unfair treatment and pain. The mentally ill often suffer in solitude without proper treatment. The children of America are the future of America. These groups may all seem to be unrelated; however, when we are speaking about poverty, they share an all too real and heartbreaking story. These are just some of the few people who are in the homeless communities of America. Americans must help their people on a local basis to really bring about change. People may wonder about the purpose of focusing on small groups instead of the big picture. The key to achieving the big picture is to group together and take responsibility for what is before you in order help the big cause. If people would help their local communities on a national level, there truly is a hope of a drastic change for the homeless of America. Foreign affairs, on the other hand, receives 58.5 billion dollars a year (Budget Center 2017). This is not to say that foreign affairs are unimportant issues, but rather to show the lack of recognition and investment of the people of America. There needs to be a reassessment of spending as a whole. The homeless community has not only statistically been growing but growing visually. Throughout San Diego more and more homeless people have come about. People all with different stories and lives suffer every single day. They have no shield from the rain, and when they find shelter, they are often run off for being “trespassers.” These people beg and pray for the generosity of the people around them to get a cheap meal. They sleep on the sidewalk and dream of lying on bed and waking up to take a shower and eat a proper breakfast.
