After my first week, I realized that many who contact CEDRO are family members or loved ones looking for help for those with an addiction and/or psychological condition. I found this very touching because it shows the strong sense of family that is in Peru. After the first assessment, the intake psychologists reviews the case with another psychologists to determine what is the best course of action for the patient. By receiving insight from another psychologists, the psychologists is able to offer the best option of care.
Spending time between patients talking to the psychologists I have learned quite a bit about how treatment differs here compared to the United States. In the United States, therapeutic treatment for addictions and psychological conditions cost on average 300 sols with psychiatrist costing more. CEDRO is a nonprofit that works to improve the community without concern of becoming rich or famous for their work. Observing this demonstrates the dedication of the psychologists and psychiatrist to the patient and community
