The clinical moment used for this record of service assignment is taken from a psychoeducational group I facilitated within a partial hospital program (PHP) for dually diagnosed patients. A psychoeducational group has an education component which includes sharing of feelings and skills (Leeman,). The group does not have a name, however, it is one of four group sessions held during the day. This particular group was the second scheduled group and started at 10:30am. The purpose of the group was to educate the participants about Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills and how to apply the skills to their own life and experiences. During this group we were discussing interpersonal effectiveness and I was reading different scenarios and we were discussing as a group how to effectively handle the situations.

To look at the environment through this lens; people with wealth and political power influence how other members behave in society (Rogers, 2013). Eric has spent his life trying to conform to society’s expectations while putting his own needs and desires on the backburner. He has a successful career and has been the sole provider for his family of five. He holds the power, but at the expense of his own happiness. Eric executed authority and power over Bill to try to get him to behave in a way Eric deemed acceptable. Bill, who had his safety taken away from him years ago by being attacked, asserted himself against the power in an effort of self preservation. This struggle between the two members caused a conflict. The reaction Matt had to the conflict, presents as someone who has succumbed to authority.
