As a freshman, I wanted to feel like I could make Texas A&M my new home and feel accepted. However, I was horrified to go to Fish Camp and I was horrified to start school. But after Fish Camp, I was excited to make more friends and strengthen those that were made at camp. The reason I am applying to be a Fish Camp counselor is because I want to be able to make incoming students that felt the same way I did know that they are meant to be here.
Over the course of last year’s summer, specifically the month of July I worked as a volunteer camp counselor for the Brooklyn Jesuit Prep(B.J.P) summer camp. This camp was held at Fairfield Prep on the second floor of Berchmans as well as in and around the circle at Loyola Drive on the Fairfield University campus and Loyola Hall. I volunteered for the afternoon sessions of the summer camp, so my experience was vastly different from those who volunteered for the morning sessions and helped tutor and educate the children. Instead, I helped and lead the middle school children in games and other activities which they didn’t have enough counselors or volunteers to do. I played games with them ranging from dodgeball to kickball and rugby, and even
In this job experience, I have learned how to develop routines, organize activities, and prepare meals. I was employed in this job for four years and retired because I decide to focus on my first year of college. I have not only had experience with children by working but also by participating as a volunteer in some of my community’s organizations. I have served as a volunteer in Henry F. Kammann Elementary School for five years. During these years I have had a closer experience with children who are enrolled in school.
In 2009 I was not like all my friends who wanted to be Soldiers, Doctors,Teachers, Police Officers and Fireman. I wanted to be a Biomedical Engineer at seven years old. At seven years old I had goals set for what I wanted to do and why I wanted to do it. Camp Med sparked a interest in me because of the fact that I would be learning and have a first hand witness on what Biomedical Engineering is like and the Rehabilitation specialty. The surgical techniques and the foundation of a medical students is what I am striving for.
When I write letters to the elderly, I do not stick to the generic script written on the board; I make each letter personal so the recipient feels a little less lonely. When I tutor Hoggard students, I do not allow my help to me constricted to the time in the classroom that is recorded on my log; I offer my email address as a way for the students in need of academic
Which could be very helpful in assisting the students. I am an English student teacher/ tutor at the high school. I was able to work with a freshman English class to work on speaking, writing, and reading. Finally, I am a personal tutor. Which means I have worked one on one with students on their organizational skills as well as homework in core subjects.
I have always enjoyed teaching people and helping them learn so that they can succeed in school. I got involved with tutoring through National Honor Society and the A+ Scholarship Program. With National Honor Society there is many service opportunities that I am able to be involved in and I do as many as possible, but tutoring homebound has always been what I've prefered to do. This is very important to me because many of these students aren't in class to learn directly from a teacher so things can become confusing fairly quickly and I like to be there to help as much as I am able to. Even at times when it is something that I am not proficient in it becomes a learning experience for me as well as the student I am tutoring.
A second paid opportunity I have had serving children has been working as summer camp counselor for the past three summers. Each summer since May 2013, Warren W. Willis United Methodist Summer Camp has provided me with the opportunity to mentor a wide variety of children ranging in ages from rising fourth grade to newly graduated high school seniors. Here I have taken on many roles of mentor, advocate, listener, friend, small group leader, activities facilitator, etc. Here I have interacted with children and adolescents of all backgrounds and cultures.
Little Lady Panther Camp For my senior project I chose to run and hold a children’s volleyball camp. My passion has been volleyball since a very young age and I wanted to share that passion I have with others. I started playing volleyball and doing little children’s camps when I was about five years old and I wanted other people to have the same opportunities I had. Volleyball influenced my life in such a positive way, and I believe and have seen that sports can have such a strong influence on youth when associated with good positive experiences.
I also believe that if you don’t have fun while learning that you will never love it, this is why as copresident/ 1 of 2 head council members for science club we design fun activities that spreads the love of science. I also tutor my friends on the weekends over skype for AP physics, honors chemistry, AP biology and other classes I’ve taken before. Over the years of solving problems and working out solutions, I have learned to be a leader and be a contributor to my
Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world.” It is commonly believed that education is unimportant and will not be useful in the future. I have volunteered in many leadership roles, including Brown City Family Camp, band, and Relay for Life. Brown City Family Camp is a camp many people attend yearly.
I learned how to adapt to the individual needs of students to provide them the best education. Like students with a communication disorder, many of my students would shy away from activities or tasks because of obstacles. Through these experiences, I watched my students gain the confidence to participate in activities and excel in academics to become successful individuals. As a future Speech Language Pathologist, many qualities that I possess can be improved by furthering my education.
This job really taught me about the importance of children having a routine to follow as well as the impact teachers can have on a child’s life. After my first year in college, I realized that I wanted to gain more experience with children of all ages. Shortly after,
As a seventh grader I attended a three day overnight event known as June Jam. Little did I know this camp would help me to discover my passion and change my life. This camp introduced me to drug and alcohol abuse prevention. I left this camp inspired to make a change. I joined high school STOP as a freshman and I immediately started to get involved.
I learned classroom procedures, routines, and. R. Dickson rules. I worked in the self-contain classroom. I provided opportunities to work with all students. I peer tutored with students.
