The TV station I am going to talk about today is Cartoon Network, one of the biggest animation television networks of all time. Cartoon Network has been around for 26 years and has delivered some of the greatest shows from Hanna-Barbera, MGM and other original content. (Saberspark, 2017) Many of us have grow up watching this TV station and had great memories watching classics such as “Adventure Time”, “Samurai Jack”, “Ed Edd ‘N Eddy”, “Courage the Cowardly Dog”, and many more. Many of you are wondering, what is the future of the company? Will the network continue to make more animated shows and new ideas? In this essay of mine, let us explore the history, the examples of its programming and what the future holds for Cartoon Network.

Ted was a radio broadcaster and later became the president and CEO of his father’s company Turner Advertising, which he later renamed to Turner Broadcasting Company. (Biograhpy.com, 2017) Ted wanted to make cartoons that any age group could enjoy. In the 1980’s, he created and aired the news network CNN. By 1985, Ted used the profits to buy a large amount of MGM content. (Biography, 2017) In 1996, Ted Turner teamed up with Warner Bros. and together they aired all of Warner Bros. library. Which includes not just the “Looney Tunes”, but also DC Comic shows, and up to the newest shows today. (Saberspark, 2017)
Second, Cartoon Network had different programming over the years, starting with the Cohen era. Betty Cohen was the first president of Cartoon Network. Ted and Betty aired the old Hanna-Barbera and Loony Tunes cartoons, along with Popeye and the MGM shows. When the network launched, Cartoon Network had 8,500 hours of animated shows.
