Challenges The Challenges lie in both inside and outside of Casa de Esperanza(Casa) in securing the access for women of color and re-engaging with the referral network. Inside: Discordance with current mission would cause bad climate and low morale. Re-entering to the referral network is not consistent with Casa’s current mission by making Casa no longer be able to work only for the Latino community. Thus, it could draw staff’s confusion or even hostility. Since staff has spent the huge amount of time and effort on identifying Casa as a Latina organization, it seems hard for staff to accept this change. Share the new vision and mission with staff: Until recently, Casa's leadership and staff were working together to form Casa's mission as a Latina organization. However, this is time of change. Contrary to the current mission, the new vision and mission are based on the agreement among you and the Board of Directors. Therefore, it is time for you to be authoritative, that means you should provide a clear direction to staff and make them follow you. You should explain why it is important to re-engage with the referral network, help them to understand their role and show them how their work is going to contribute to achieve the new vision. Through this process, you could avoid Casa’s climate getting worse and raise staff’s morale. If you make them think that they are forced to follow you, the new vision and mission would promote neither the organizational climate nor staff’s morale. Thus, you should take time to assure staffs' understanding and sympathy with new vision.
