Intervention: MHP taught Braydon how to identify negative, hostile, and defiant behaviors, and develop new ways to reframe these behaviors in more pro-social terms. MHP taught his grandmother how to change her predictable response to reestablish control in positive, but creative ways.

Started the new school year at Triton this fall and I am amazed by the staff and specialists that we have for the children to reach their needs and goals. We have teachers, paraeducators, behaviorists, speech therapists, and occupational therapists. They are all here working together as a team to help these young individuals succeed. Most of the individuals didn’t make it in a traditional school setting because they escape school, get suspended, having erratic behaviors that most teachers can get physically hurt if they are not properly trained. The Ventura County Office of Education provides training and refreshers for CPI training for Nonviolent Crisis Intervention.

Introduction Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a form of therapy that seeks to improve particular behaviors such as communication, social skills, and adaptive learning skills such as domestic capabilities and fine motor dexterity. ABA is effective in adults and children because it improves skills and behaviors. It follows a research approach to the treatment that is centered on the proven models and theories of behavior and learning. Therapists using this approach comprehend how human behaviors are adopted and changed over time (Cooper, Heron, & Heward, 2007). The case study provided details an account of a 14-year-old girl, Sara with severe developmental days exhibiting self-injuries behavior working with a behavior analyst, Martin.

The teacher reported that he hummed and make noises under his breath, blurted out answers without raising his hand, and always tried to be first when the teacher asked a question, even though he often did not have the answer when called upon.

Antonio seems to on average perform below grade level in both reading and writing. However, his behavior problems is one of the main contributing factors to this situation. Antonio has a hard time maintain focus and not only will he not stay on task but he often times becomes a distraction to his peers. Antonio also tends to sit on his knees or legs and dazes off during lectures or reading time. For example, after having directions repeated twice to the class as a whole, Antonio fails to meet the needs, requirements, and understandings to complete the task at hand.

It is important to be certain the learning content is not too juvenile to be effective and evaluations must carefully prepared to meet his individual academic needs. While he is offered accommodations such as text-to-speech and a scribe, planning lessons that include opportunities for artistic expression would be beneficial. Because he has creative inclinations, time should also be spent on the computer using graphics programs geared toward elementary students. Developing AB’s creative instincts could be helpful during his final transition process when he is older. In addition, tailoring instruction toward mastering life skills such as telling time, reading a calendar and calculating monetary transactions are extremely important and should be a focus of lesson planning for AB.
