The service user I chose to assess is a 17-year-old Hispanic female whose modified name is Tiana Santos. I provided therapeutic casework services to Tiana for a year in my previous role as a Therapeutic Caseworker at the Children’s Village, a foster care agency. Tiana was placed in foster care after been removed from her mother’s care due to emotional and physical abuse. Tiana’s father abandoned her mother and her youngest sibling when she was 5 years old. Tiana’s memories about her father were very limited due to her young age.
R/s Nicole is in not school and is planning to get into a GED program. R/s there was a court order investigation due to lack of supervision. R/s during the investigation the case was filed against the mom Eliosa for lack of supervision and inadequate guardianship. R/s the mom would bring Nicole and her sister Damon to SC without the father’s permission. R/s mom would pick Damon up from school and wouldn’t return the child back to father until days later.
Richard J. Gelles was the director of the Family Violence Research Program at the University of Rhode Island. In his research, Gelles found that in many cases Social Workers as well as other professionals fail to look at the entire picture in terms of family intervention. It is a highly specialized residential treatment center for youth ages 6-18 who have experience multiple and complex traumas. Their mission is to help a child return to a living situation. If appropriate they might be able to return to their biological family or maybe to a foster care family. The programs they offer are designed to meet each child’s individual needs by helping them acknowledge his/her strengths, skills and see what the child needs in order to successfully resume to family or community living.
In a perfect world, the simple answer or recommendation on improving homelessness chemical dependency would be to end poverty finally once and for all yet that is easier said than done. With the development of new diseases, these individuals are being exposed and spreading diseases to other individuals. Substance abuse cannot improve without more emphasizes being placed on creating stability for this population. Just like any mental disorder, addiction should be treated with the same urgency. The case assessment of Brianna Lopez begins with her birth on February 14, 2002 in a New Mexico hospital. After leaving the hospital, Brianna resided in Las Cruces, New Mexico with her unwed parents, Andrew “Andy” Walters, 21, and Stephanie Lopez, 19. There were also four other adults and one child, Andy and Stephanie’s 18 month old son, living in the home (State v. Walters, 2007). Among these adults was Brianna’s uncle, Steven Lopez. Shortly after her arrival home, Baby Brianna experienced extreme physical, verbal, and sexual abuse from her parents and uncle.
One homeless man was faced with a decision that even the most honest man might have issues making. While resting on a park bench the man, who doesn't want his name released, found a wallet containing several hundred dollars and a woman's personal belongings including her EBT card which helps her family receive food assistance. Thankfully for the program Hearts for Homeless Shelter the man who found the wallet was about to text the assistant director for help. The text explained how he had found the wallet containing nearly 400 dollars and the money was to tempting. He asked the director to come pick up the wallet before he was tempted to do something with the money.
Although homelessness is caused by many things, homeless people are usually labeled as homeless. But there are types of homelessness. One type of homelessness is Situational or Transitional homelessness. This is when someone is forced into homelessness because of uncontrollable circumstances such as losing a job, important material lost, lost of a main breadwinner (Father, husband, wife) etc. The second type of homelessness is Episodic or cyclical homelessness.
Area of Conflict Homelessness can be understood in the perspective of conflict theory, which holds that capitalism is one the main reason for homelessness. “Capitalism is a social system based on the recognition of individual rights, including property rights, in which all property is privately owned” (Ayn Rand). There are many reasons why a person becomes homeless, an increasing number become homeless each year, with up to 5,000 people becoming homeless every year. Generally the experiences that lead to homelessness are determined by poverty and structural inequality.
Balancing out individuals through shelters, moving them into permanent lodging, and actualizing help projects to keep them in their housing, can lessen, as well as dispose of, homelessness. System theories compresses ideas that apply to all frameworks. System theory is helpful when drawing close to complex issues. The greater part of us utilize a frameworks approach for critical thinking. Youth Homelessness in America Every year, millions of people are experiencing some form of homelessness in the United States alone. Of those people who are experiencing homelessness, a large proportion of them is under the age of 24. Data has found that there are over 550,000 youth have experienced homelessness for more than a week over the course of a year (“Youth and Young Adults,” 2018). In many cases, youth homelessness can be prevented, but the lack of resources and services available to youth is limited. As a result, the issue continues to grow and affect more and more youth have to experience homelessness.
Theoretical Framework The second section within the paper will discuss the psychological effects of homelessness on women. The psychological effect of homelessness is very harsh trauma to an individual; when a person loses their income through job loss, low/cut in pay, and unemployment/underemployment it hurts the emotional being of the person. If the person had a decent paying job and now the income is gone, a tremendous burden is placed on the individual. The emotional state of the mind is at a low point and this can cause depression to set in and a loss of hope.
