In December 2016, a report was made delving into the opportunities and integration present today. The Casey Review executive summary, created by Dame Louise Casey, focused on the integration and opportunity specifically in isolated and deprived communities(Casey 5). The report had several aims, such as considering what divides communities, the effects of these divides, and that by exploring the causes Britain will be able to improve integration. To accomplish this, throughout the article Casey examines how instead of integration among communities, there are clusters of cultural and ethnic groups often finding themselves in less prosperous areas(Casey 5). When considering this in residential areas and schools, it shows that the chances of children growing up learning about the diversity of people from different backgrounds is slim(Casey 11). This is supported by a survey conducted at a non-faith secondary school, where resulted concluded the students believed 50%-90% of Britain was Asian (Casey 11). The segregation of communities diminished opportunities for social ties, in turn causing less patriotism for “the British way” and a lack of trust between ethnic groups(Casey 12). Socio-economic disadvantages play a role into this “lack of social mobility” (Casey 11). The report shows that “41% to 51% of households of Black, Pakistani, Chinese, and Bangladeshi ethnicity” live on relative low income(Casey 13). Those of many ethnic groups, such as Pakistani, Bangladeshi, and Black, are three times as likely to be unemployed than the White British population(Casey 13). Those who work, generally do not hold high status’s in the workplace, working as taxi-drivers or in restaurants(Casey 13). Women find themselves at an even greater disadvantage within the Pakistani and Bangladeshi ethnic groups, with 57.2% of women not working(Casey 14). Throughout Britain, gender equality is being fought for and strides made. Prefacing all action with the need to acknowledge these difficult issues that many would wish to ignore in order to stimulate conversation and debate so that action may be taken(Casey 16). The first step is to build local communities’ resilience where the greatest challenges exist(Casey 17). Through projects that will address the priorities identified through the review, collecting more regular data and finding further identifiers of integration, and by showing successful approaches to integration (Casey 17). Next is to improve integration and establish core values that all backgrounds can relate to(Casey 17). By reviewing the process of British citizenship, support provided to immigrants, and the values and history the country is promoting in schools, this can be accomplished(Casey 17). The third step is to improve the most isolated and deprived communities and schools by reducing economic exclusion, inequality, and segregation (Casey 17). The fourth step is to hold leaders in public office to a higher standard in ensuring they uphold the British Values(Casey
