In the early century the was crusades. In the crusades the muslims and christians fight in 9 wars. The christians was trying to get the holy lands and the muslims tried to protect the holy lands. The crusades was supposed to be positive bot turned out to be more negative. One reason the crusades were negative is That a lot of innocent died for no reason in the crusades.
The greatly needed stability for the Holy Roman Empire motivated the political leaders for the undertaking of the Christian Crusades. At this time the Holy Roman Empire was a poverish and the majority of the people who were in the middle and lower class were not able to live comfortably. In addition the government was not strong enough to advance let alone support the people. The fairly new feudalist government created a separation within the classes the made the lower class serfs, Middle class knight and the upper class lords and kings fight for mobility and power. In result of this violence and chaos erupted.
Muslims holding control of Jerusalem angered Christians. The Byzantine empire asked the Pope of the Western empire for help in taking control back. The Pope agreed and promised wealth and forgiven sins for those who fought in the war. Even though Christians completely showed their loyalty to Christ during the Crusades
The Crusades changed the Medieval world, as they set the stage. The Crusades were a huge influence in many areas including: Religion, Expansion, Trade and Economy, Government, Intelligence, and Culture. All of these components play a role in how the Crusades changed the medieval world. Christianity, for one, was incredibly impacted directly by the crusades, as the reason for them was to 'Take back the Holy land'. This caused the Churches to begin to hold more power, as people came to them for answers.
The First Crusade was fought because of the change from . Arab to Turkish control over Jerusalem. effect on the people that were allowed to live there, and . the beliefs that they could have. Since the city was .
Others thought of the crusades as a commercial opportunity and used it to trade and sell items as they were traveling. One more reason people went to fight in the crusades is to settle down. They went with the crusades but once they were in the Muslim
Pope Urban II’s speech at Clermont in 1095 was a call to crusade given outdoors to the nobles, commoners and church leaders of the Western European Christians (the Franks). The people were moved by this speech and it changed history, launching the first crusade to capture Jerusalem from the Muslim Turks. After hearing Pope Urban II’s speech, thousands of Western European Christians were moved to embark on the dangerous journey and fight in the crusade. I believe the main reasons they were moved and persuaded to fight was; 1) they felt it was their Christian duty, 2) Pope Urban promised them absolution for their sins and 3) they felt compelled to defend Christianity, their holy land and the Eastern Christians.
Maybe it was none of these reasons, but you have probably still heard about it. The Crusades or “Holy Wars” was a conflict that lasted over 250 years. They took place in the Middle East, around a city named Jerusalem. Jerusalem was not a normal city though, it was the “Holy land”
Many people joined the crusades. Some people join for wealth and strength, others fought for adventure, estates, commercial opportunities, and lots of people wanted to kill their enemies or kill innocents for sport. Neither Muslim or Christian, religions would fight for freedom, others would kill for the desire for wealth and rewards. Others had to suffer the incident that was said Pope Urban the second sent a message for christians to kill the muslims even though they were innocent. There was nine wars in total and very violent, but Muslims and Christians was not the only reason for fighting for the Holy Lands, they fought for some other reason as
The 1st crusade began when Pope Urban II had an opportunity to attack the Muslims in the west when the Emperor of Byzantium, Alexius I, needed help to ward off the Seljuk Turks. This was the reason the church needed to fight for and liberate the holy city of Jerusalem from the infidels. To convince the citizens of Europe to fight, Urban gave a speech promising for the remission of all sins, if one were to fall in battle (Duiker 2014, 350). At first, a peasant crusade started by Peter the Hermit led a wave of religious activism. However, this activism led to the persecution of all Jewish people because they were considered the murderers of Christ.
The crusades happened because of many reasons. First the Turks took over the holy lands. Then the Byzantine Emperor wanted to regain the holy land, so he called for the church 's help. Pope Urban II didn 't want to look weak, so he arranged for the first crusade. That is the cause of the crusades.
In my opinion what motivated the Crusades was economic reasons simply because money is power. Religion could have been a factor but the main reason why I choose the economic factor was because money tends to leave behind a bloody violence. People would do anything for money take the lords for example, they were wealthy enough money to hire private armies and build castles. After the battle with Vikings ended, the knights were left with nothing to do, they were only trained to kill and fight. The local lords would have built castles not to protect but to use the peasants for their own greedy needs.
The land's rich history makes it the most desirable place for Christians to be at the time. They therefore ascribed great spiritual worth to its conquest and dominance. Many Western Christians thought that making a journey to Jerusalem was crucial to their salvation since they were so worried about their future. The Crusaders thought they were carrying out God's will, and many thought they were defending Christianity itself. By taking back Jerusalem, the Crusaders thought they would cleanse the Holy Land of the “pollution" of Muslim rule and return it to its rightful Christian owners.
The Crusades: Crescent and the Cross provided detailed information regarding the ongoing battle between the Christians and the Muslims. Christians set out to take back the Holy Land from the infidels. In the 7th century Jerusalem was forcibly seized by Islam. It was 400 years later Christians decided to take back Jerusalem. The textbook Our Western World states Christians did not appreciate being taxed by the Turks when visiting Jerusalem.
The crusades were a a war effort that began with Pope Urban II in 1095. The crusades were a call to all Christians to free the holy lands of Jerusalem. The message consisted of several factors most being with glory and fortune from capturing the holy lands. The holy land was seen as a and ideal of “ignominy and irreverently polluted with filthiness”. the bible was used as incentive, for example gospel verses were used in a manner of intent to arouse men to leave their houses, brethren, father, mother, wife, and children or lands.
