The Center for Safety & Change mission is to develop strategies to end gender-based violence and provide shelter and supportive services that empower survivors of domestic violence, sexual abuse and other crimes. For 15 years, I have had the opportunity to watch my Mom work with clients and observed how she handles each case given to her. Watching the way she is able to help her clients physically, emotionally, and mentally made me cherish her not only as my Mother, but as a separate individual. Not only do I admire her ability to be there for people she does not or barely know, but also for her commitment to follow the confidentiality code associated with the Center. On page 502 of the textbook, there is a section that addresses the misuse of confidential information. Aside from the Center’s mission to end gender-based violence while empowering survivors of domestic violence, sexual abuse and other crimes, the Center prides itself of its ability to stay true to the confidentiality of each client. A for profit organization, the textbook states “Social responsibility requires corporations and businesses to act with awareness of the consequences and impact that their decisions will have on others” (pg 717). The text also states that the four theories of the social responsibilities of a business is to maximize profits, moral minimum, stakeholder interest, and corporate citizenship. In the case of the Center, because it is a non-profit organization, their social responsibility is quit different. In nonprofit organizations, their social responsibility is to take social-impact very seriously.
