The centre that will be reflected on will be referred as Centre ABC. Centre ABC philosophy is that [c]hildren should be prepared for lifelong learning and develop holistically; [c]hildren should be empowered to have the freedom to choose and express; [t]eachers are learners who strive for professionalism; [p]arents and the community are our partners in children’s learning journey; [e]nvironment should be safe and cater to diversity; [l]earning should be engaging, teaching should be vibrant and there should be respect for all! Firstly, centre ABC is preparing children for lifelong learning and holistic development. One of the ways centre ABC prepares children for lifelong learning is through “play”, “play” is the foundation of lifelong learning, centre ABC emphasis on uninterrupted play for children to construct knowledge and develop learning skills. The interactions that happen during play will also support and foster future learning. Similarly, centre ABC helps develops children holistically by emphasising in all domains as they are all interwoven. According to Ministry of Education (MOE), a class should be less than thirty for preschool. Centre ABC fulfils this by having close to fifteen students in each class. Similarly, teachers in centre ABC have to be properly certified and will continuously be upgraded. Centre ABC facilities are well maintained are child appropriate. For example, classroom tables, chairs and cabinets do not have shape edges. The centre also caters to diversity. For example, centre ABC not only have local children but also Japanese children.
