But, sometimes you have to look on the bright side of things. In the stories Challenger Deep and Fish Cheeks the characters Caden and Amy both show being nervous by their thoughts and their actions.
Caden shows he is nervous by his actions and thoughts and how scared he was all of the time. This story is about a kid named Caden, who is very confused with how his life is going. One situation is where he is anxious is at school because he thinks someone is out to get him. He thinks someone wants to kill him. So he ditches school. “Well… I think he wants to kill me.” (Shusterman 9). This quote proves that Caden is nervous because his mind is always racing thinking about what other people are doing. This story is about a young chinese girl, who is embarrassed about her culture. And that night people were coming over for dinner and so she did not want them to judge her culture or the foods they eat. Then at the dinner table her father embarrassed her. She wanted to leave because her father asked her if she wanted the cheeks out of the fish. He picked them up and threw them on her plate, and she was embarrassed. “ I wanted to disappear.” (Tan 1) This quote shows Amy is nervous because of what her father did. Also how she is embarrassed by her culture, because in her culture they eat like that all the time. She thinks people will judge her and her family. Even though people accept her and her culture she feels that people will still judge her. How Amy acts shows how anxious she is about people judging her and how she
