Traditions have been abandoned so much over centuries of people being alive, that It has changed the course of history. In this essay, I will be comparing two stories that have to do with traditions and how people change them and change themselves. The stories are “Whale Rider” by Niki Caro and “day in the life of the Mimis” by Domingo Martinez. The theme for”Whale Rider” Is Sometimes traditions have to be broken, and the theme of The Mimi's story Is delusions can change traditions and people’s way. The way they connect to each other Is that In both stories people are changing their traditions and alerting their and future people’s lives. The girls end up dying the hair and dressing in designer clothes and end up becoming people they aren't. In the story, It says “marge and mare made a conscious decision that they would be rich and white, even If their family wasn’t”(page 2). This Is saying that they know who they are but they don't want to fit into their families rules and traditions about who they should be, so they pretend to rich and white. In saying this the author Is claiming that delusions are a form of rebelling and a way for people to escape from responsibilities and who they really are. An example of this is when people have a midlife crisis and act like people they aren’t to try and rebel against getting older and the responsibilities of older people.
