The Case Against College by Linda Lee The Case Against College has a unique and interesting premise, exploring the idea that college is not necessary to be successful. In a country “obsessed with college”, American high schoolers often feel as if the next step in their lives has to be either college or failure. Lee, however, disagrees. In her essay, she explores the idea that college is expensive, unnecessary, and can lead to the same results as a path taken without college.
The West Point: The Cheating Incident case examines the events surrounding a cheating scandal that occurred in West Point Academy in April of 1976. West Point is one of the longest standing military academies in the United States. West Point aims to groom Army officers using a rigid program that features both academic and physical challenges, which enable its student body to develop the mental and carnal maturity and endurance needed for leadership roles throughout future combat on the battlefield. West Point’s program is so rigorous in order to mimic the stress that soldiers will endure during periods of war. West Point holds its student body to a very high standard and their honor code as dictated by the Cadet Honor Committee exalts the virtues of honesty and integrity by stating,
But, some of these particular professors treat this situation very poorly. Teachers should inform the students the consequences of cheating,
Students who really care about their future careers would think twice before committing plagiarism. If students are capable of stealing and committing fraud in academic education it means they would commit similar action wherever they go. Cheating can be compared as a bad stain that impossible to remove it same thing with academic dishonesty which would take years to remove it from the records. Lenora C. Thompson and Portia G. Williams said “it’s a risk ending academic careers before the careers even get started”. I believe the policy of plagiarism should not be revised and be kept equal to all the students.
I have been sanctioned for cheating in academic misconduct. Cheating as per Aggie Honor Code is use of unauthenticated materials in any homework, exam or research or anyone who gives assistance to student regarding research without permission of instructor. If a student is found doing any offensive activity at anytime during commencement of course he/she will be sanctioned Honor code which will be handed over to Honor court to take actions according to rules. Academic misconduct represents a wrong picture of knowledge and capabilities, which subverts the instructor's ability to interpret how well you are doing in the course or how far you can go in academics. Instructors have the power to define academic integrity in their classes, because the expectations for academic performance are directly based on the objectives of the class.
“A person must accept all aspects of himself (herself) to grow” One of the main facets of humanity (other than higher comprehension skills and opposable thumbs) that sets us apart from other organisms is that we show growth not only physically, but mentally and emotionally. It is essential to growing up and maturing. “A person must accept all aspects of himself (herself) to grow” is a major secondary theme within this story. It is not until the very climax of the story when this theme came into fruition, however. It has already been established that the shadow that was hunting Ged was a physical manifestation (symbol).
That aside not every student will take a pledge and feel obligated to stop cheating or to be completely honesty. This could be the flaw in the honor code, stating that the students take a pledge to not use plagiarism or cheat which means that not every student will have the integrity to not cheat when he/ she didn’t study for a test and has the integrity to be honest to the educator that they have
The difference between people who cheat and people who don’t is their character. While they can be seen as just another set of rules to follow, there should be an academic honor code implemented in all schools. This honor code will help students in the long run , give students and teachers comfort , and keep people’s character in check . An important reason that an academic honor code should be implemented is because will help out students in the long run of their career.
Unfortunately, it is hard to see the different perspectives due to the bitter taste of betrayal being stronger than loyalty. It is up to the subject to decide whether they have been betrayed or rather been
It has a huge affect on peoples feelings and Morales. This puts you in a bad position. You have to make a decision to how you will deal with this problem. I recall when I got betrayed by my close friend. We were eating lunch and my friend leaves me so sit with somebody else.
“Succeed so that you can help us in future”. This is always the narrative when a member of the society gets into higher learning. The general population wants to get the best out of someone but what happens when circumstances do not allow for success. Cheating in the exam is one way to make people happy in that one has to violate the rules that govern exam misconduct. In this case, cheating is good but is it morally correct?
Now, in college, cheating will place an academic warning on your official transcript, making it visible to other institutions. I am going to come clean, about cheating in the far past. I am taking, full responsibility that cheat is a unethical habit. Most students decide to cheat, because they want high grades, without much effort. I can’t remember the exact incident, that occured cheating, although I have.
Most obviously, cheating is unfair to honest students. A cheater receives through deception what honest students work hard for; and in classes graded on a curve, he lowers their grades to boot. Cheating also cheapens the diploma. How valuable can a sheepskin be if so many people receive it under false pretenses?
Study shows that one reason why students cheat is because they feel as if they almost have to because of their peers. In their article, “Source Is Important When Developing A Social Norms Campaign to Combat Academic Dishonesty”, Jennifer N. Engler and Joshua D. Landau maintains that “By this account, students cheat because they believe that their peers
Students do realize that cheating is wrong because they are very much concerned about getting caught but they still do it because they do not consider it unethical enough to avoid doing it because in
