A leader is said to be someone who leads or commands a group, organization, or country. During highschool I have had the privilege to be a member of the varsity cheer squad. Being a member of this team has allowed me to work through many hardships but has also been very rewarding. I like to live by my mission statement, which is being friendly, outgoing, and compassionate, always putting my best foot forward remembering how far I have come rather than how far I still have to go. Imagine working eight months for one two minute and thirty second routine. In this sport, that’s what we do. “Columbia, you may now take the floor!” our crowd erupted and we were ready to give it our all. The routine went by in a flash, I remember the feeling of pure joy when all three stunts hit, and I remember screaming to the judges telling them we were back for redemption. The next memory I have is one that will stick with me for the rest of my life, us celebrating with tears running down our faces. We had redeemed ourselves from the year before by hitting a near perfect routine. This feeling was indescribable knowing that we had achieved our goal. Columbia was back and we were stronger than ever before. We knew we were going to make podium if not win it all. Awards came around and the nerves were running through my veins, my adrenaline pumping. “ Your 2015 State Runner Ups are … Columbia!” We had placed second by seven-hundredths of a point. Seven-hundredths. I’ve never felt so many emotions at one time in life. I was mad, confused, proud, and devastated. Although we had hit a perfect routine the judges did not reward us with a gold medal. We were proud of what we had accomplished but we did not feel the results were fair. Although we did not win this gave us our confidence back. It was a win in our eyes. We had practiced for months giving up blood, sweat, and tears. Getting second has given us motivation to keep working harder than we ever have, and we are ready to come back stronger than ever this year and
