Kara learned to be honest with herself through mistakes from the past. One thing that can determine an individual’s future is the type of person they were. In “An Indian Father’s Plea” by Robert G. Lake-Thom, Lake-Thom uses transitions to help connect his ideas and create a well written essay. In the twelfth paragraph the author discusses the knowledge that his son possessed before he began going to the school he is currently attending. Since Lake-Thom is listing the knowledge his son possessed before starting at that school he uses the transitional expression “and” frequently in this paragraph. Lake-Thom also repeatedly uses the transitional expression “but” when he says that while his son may not be able to do something that other non-Indian children his age can do such as writing their names he has knowledge of other things that those children don’t have. He also begins multiple sentences with

What kind of government is the High Council? After reading Ella Minnow Pea, one might be appalled at the amount of power the Nollop High Council has. The High Council, convinced the people that the letters were falling for a reason; as a result, the Council started to make laws banning usage of the fallen letters. In the real world, the High Council could be compared to some of the most infamous dictators; because both the High Council and dictators share the same methods of enforcing their rule, and both have complete power. The High Council in Ella Minnow Pea, is not only the enemy in the epistolary, but is also representative of the power mad enemy in our world, totalitarianism.
When trying to put myself in Holloway's shoes, shoes that do not fit as she has acquired more anthropological field experience in single days than I could hope to acquire in a lifetime, these inclusions of ritual like the chickpea prophecy strike me as more author than scientist in nature. Mrs. Halloway is a highly educated woman, earning her MPH from the University of Michigan, I find it very hard to accept that she truly believed that a connected double chickpea in Mawa's foraging basket had a tangible correlation to her eventual birthing of twins. So why does she include anecdotes such as this if she does not believe in their validity herself? On some level, we all have preconceived notions of certain people places and things, I think this
