Work performed by children under the minimum age is considered illegal and is also an infringement on the Convention of Rights on the Child. Presently, throughout the world, around 215 million children are forced into labor and most work full-time. In the worst case, child labor can turn into slavery through separating them from their families, and exposing them to harsh and unsafe conditions. Typically, multinational corporations use child labor in developing countries for production. Slavery is linked to chocolate companies since the companies are most commonly recognized for trafficking children from their home towns and consequently selling the individuals to cocoa plantations in Cote d'Ivoire. Although child labor is indisputable, it is also an economic necessity. Corporations rely on the use of child labor which correspondingly causes child labor to have a place in the world economy. Organizations should instead work alongside child labor rather than to quickly abolish it because the only solution in ending child labor is through becoming realistic about the challenges these families face. Organizations such as NGO who try to illegalize the opportunity for children to make an income are only doing more harm than good through consequently only leading the child down a dangerous path. Children who suffer through the challenges of poverty without parent supervision, may feel forced into participating in criminal activities or the sex trade to survive. In comparison, working in sweatshops is a better solution rather than the latter. Although child labor should be banned, it is overall an economic necessity. Child labor is inescapable because of families who cannot meet their basic needs are needed to depend on the income of their children to support
