As of 2012 childhood obesity was affecting nearly one third of the children in the United States. Childhood obesity has become an epidemic that is causing major health risks to children. It affecting how children are interacting with one another and the ability for children to do activities that they should be able to do. Childhood obesity can have major health effects, psychological effects and can affect the health of the children in their adult life but there are multiple different ways that it can be prevented. Childhood obesity has major health effects the number one health risk that is causes is the child has very high risk for a cardiovascular disease. In 2012 children from the ages of 5-17 were tested to see if they were at risk for a cardiovascular disease. The study found that 70% of those children were at risk for a cardiovascular disease. Along with cardiovascular disease obesity in children can cause prediabetes. Healthy eating and regular exercise can decrease the risk of children becoming obese. There are parents who would rather go to a fast food restaurant rather than make a healthy homemade meal. It is also much cheaper for a meal at a fast food restaurant than to make a homemade meal. Schools, after school care centers and families can help prevent obesity in children. Schools are a fantastic opportunity to be able to teach children the benefits and need to eat healthy and exercise. More schools are starting to implement the importance of healthy eating by making it a requirement to take a health class. These classes can promote a healthy living style in the youth of American and in turn it can also affect the adults of America.
