COMPARE AND CONTRAST REPORT ON CHILDHOOD OBESITY This paper takes a look at the similarities and differences associated with childhood obesity. Based on the five studies, they indicate many similarities associated with childhood obesity. Today, not only in America but worldwide obesity found in children has been moving in an upward direction in most countries. It defines obesity health risks including Type II Diabetes, Heart and Liver Disease, Sleep Apnea, Joint and Mobility Issues, and Psychosocial Issues. Psychological health risks include negative physical self-perception and lower self-worth leading to behavioral problems, learning problems, academic performance issues and even depression.

Fortunately, the condition may be reversed by being more educated, eating healthier foods, avoiding unhealthier ones and increasing physical activity. Genetic considerations aside, children become obese due to poor eating patterns. Commonalities in society itself has also contributed to the obesity problem found on the five articles. The food industry has made unhealthy food cheaper and more readily available. Research also indicating environmental cause may impact some of the key weight regulating genes. The major problems with childhood obesity is that obesity tracks over time. Meaning today’s overweight and obese children will be tomorrow’s overweight and obese adults. In researching the five articles the studies and analysis methods used were much different. The first article, “Childhood Obesity – Looking back over 50 years to begin to look forward.” This article was an overview or research from the Journal of Pediatrics and Child Health in research of obesity not being prevalent in society 50 years ago and also as to what has been gained since then. The second article, “Framing
