Nearly one in three children in America are overweight or obese. The problem with childhood obesity is that it has been increasing over the last few decades and it will only be growing more if nobody helps to reduce it. 17% of all children and adolescents are obese or overweight, which is three times as much as last generation. This is a huge epidemic not only in America but across the world and has been strongly ignored. Childhood obesity is an occasion that has been growing rapidly over the last 30 years and can be reduced or prevented with the assistance of schools, parents, local governments. There are three ways schools can help with this problem. Schools can teach nutrition classes, offer more physical activity programs, and serve healthier foods in the cafeteria. A study shows that kids will pay more attention about the discussion of healthy foods and lifestyle rather than listen to their parents about it. It may not be the most interesting thing to learn but as long as the kids are educated about it. Also, more schools need to offer physical activity classes other the physical education. They can offer classes that help them find an interest such as sport related classes. Research shows that kids will participate in more physical activities as long as they have an interest in it. Having an interest will go a long way for kids participating in these physical activity and sport related classes. Finally, not such a huge problem in most schools but can still be overlooked is the serving of healthier foods in cafeterias. Many schools don’t force kids to get a fruit or vegetable when getting their food like other schools. Schools everywhere should be forced to make the kids have at least one fruit or vegetable. This will help kids eat healthier foods and find an interest in it early on. The more fruits and vegetables kids are exposed to at young age will help them like the food and continue eating healthy.
