Some people may say childhood obesity is a reflection of parental negligence, while others may say it’s not, but is it or not? Basically, childhood obesity is a reflection on parental negligence when parents do not watch their child eating pattern. Being obese is a serious situation, especially if you are already suffering problems such as sleep apnea, high cholesterol, etc… As parents it is very important to watch your child’s diet so they want become obese. Obesity comes from having too much body fat. Obesity is not the same as being overweight, because you can become overweight from having extra muscles. When parents fail to monitor their child’s physical activities, that’s a way childhood obesity can reflect parental negligence. For as, nutrition failure, not taking their child to appointments, failure to adhere obesity treatment, etc… When a child is young, instead of parents telling them to eat enough until they get full, they tell them to eat everything on their plate and that saying sticks with them every time they eat. It means you are eating more food than your body can use. “All aspects of the child’s family and living environment, including nutrition and activity, need to be closely asserted when determining what’s best for the child’s welfare” (Higher Risk of Obesity for Children). When the child gets older and is no longer living with their parents, then it’s not the parents fault for their obesity, but when the child is young and is still staying with them, it is. Also, childhood obesity reflects parental neglect, because as parents they have to drive them around to get the food. For example, to get something to eat from Burger King or McDonalds when they ask for it. Not saying parents shouldn’t let them eat their at all, but when they know their child weighs more than they should, they shouldn’t let them eat their often. Also childhood obesity reflects parental negligence if there is a refusal on parents to accept assistance from weight management and professionals.
