Obesity is an enormous issue in the United States due to lack of exercise and unhealthy diets. Obesity leads to many other health problems which means increased health services are needed in the United States(Alic). There can be many solutions to the issue of obesity including, and not limited to, a changed elementary school curriculum, encouragement, and lifestyle changes. Introducing an active lifestyle on children will benefit them in the future and well as current. The elementary school curriculum, most definitely, needs to include more physical activity because there is a current epidemic about increased obesity in the United States. The curriculum would differ, yes, but there would be so many added benefits. Some simple things would be for young people learning how to count, to have a movement that goes with it so it would stick in their brains more. They could do jumping jacks or a certain dance move and it would make them remember how to count better. Some people may say that it is better for them to just learn numbers but the children would have more fun and be active while doing it. The curriculum does not need to be changed completely, only some things to make it more active based. The cost of the curriculum would be very little but it would take people’s time and dedication. The administrators and teachers would have to be involved in meetings and conferences in order to learn how to teach students with more active options. The teachers may have to get a degree in physical fitness as well. It would be slightly more expensive to send teachers to school but the benefits of the outcome is well worth it.
