The purpose of Common Core State Standards is to prepare students for a competitive global economy and for college. The tests are internationally benchmarked, meaning employers, college admissions, and international staticians have something to compare students by. But research shows that this is not a fair test of one’s knowledge. There are some positives to the system. The tests are globally benchmarked, meaning that our students will compare to other countries favorably. But there is no proof that the tests will do this. It does gives schools an opportunity to compare to other schools, or for colleges to compare different applicants. It can be seen as a way to help students prepare for college. The tests will lower the costs states for to develop their own tests, scoring systems, and ways of reporting results. Each state won't have to pay for unique tests. This will save schools a lot of money they could put towards things for the students.
But the negatives outway the positives. It will be a huge change for educators and their students, and push students to learn faster than ever, which can cause stress, not to mention the stress to meet the standards, and to adapt to these standards. It also is nearly impossible to tailor this kind of education system to all students. …show more content…

It is not the way teachers are used to teaching or the way students are used to learning. Spending this extra time and energy just teaching these new ways and methods to reach the requirements, can be seen as a giant waste of time, considering that it might not even have the outcomes that it was set up for. To see any results at all, positive or negative, it will take time. In the mean time of finding theses results, students and teachers have to follow these standards without knowing if it is going to have a positive
