Childhood Obesity Childhood Obesity is becoming a big problem for children in the United States. More and more kids are becoming obese, but it’s not entirely their fault. Nearly one in three children in the United States are overweight or obese, and it’s not their fault. Parents should have a say in what their kids can and cannot eat. I feel like less parents are encouraging a healthy eating plan, and are more likely to eat out than eat a home cooked meal. By controlling what your child eats and encouraging healthier food we should make the healthier choice the easy choice. According to the CDC, obese children are more likely to become obese adults. It’s really sad that more and more kids are becoming obese. A lot of the food that is given to kids is not nutritious or healthy. Most of the food given to kids by schools or parents is actually really bad for them. Fast food is a big part of the growing numbers of obese kids in the U.S. A lot of the foods the school give are just frozen food they just heat up and serve to their kids just like they do at fast food places. Kids are not getting the right food in schools. A study of more than 1,000 sixth graders in several schools in southeastern Michigan found that those who regularly had the school lunch were 29 percent more likely to be obese than those who brought lunch from home. That’s because most school lunches rely heavily on high-energy, low-nutrient-value food. It’s all good though because of a law passed under legislature in December, the Department of Agriculture guidelines will limit the number of calories served at schools. Another way they could help stop childhood obesity is if they got rid of all of the vending machines around the schools. Replace the soda machines with water and juice and the un-healthy snacks machine with healthy nutritious food and
