Adeline was neglected, badly treated, and hated by mostly her whole family, imagine how that would feel. Despite the negative family issues throughout Adelines childhood, she continued hoping for something more and something greater. She is now a famous author of the autobiography Chinese Cinderella and inspires girls around the world in similar situations.
Adeline has many negative things that happened in her life. In the beginning of the book she didn’t respond to the change in her life verbally or physically, she just kept it trapped inside. For example, Adeline is very good at school and really enjoyed going, her siblings hated how she excelled at school because she received awards constantly. It was her great academics that caused Adeline’s dad to notice her once. She loved that. “It was the only way to make my father take notice me and be proud of me,”she said. (15). Her siblings didn’t like that their father recognized her and not them. They became very mean to her and she had to deal with it alone. They all picked out their own, except for Adeline, she got the last skinny one. Because her duck was smaller than the rest she was often made fun of. Adeline was given the responsibility of this duck, and she expressed, “I felt very protective” (73). She didn’t let her siblings mean comments about how small the duck was bother her, she loved it just the way it was. A little while later Adeline ran for class president and won. All of her friends from school were very happy for her. They came over to her house unannounced to congratulate her.
