The ACA standard also focuses on ethical issues in technology, online counseling, and social media. Another focus is on the imposition of counselor values on whether referrals should be made because of the counselor’s religious or other values. The ACA standards clarify that referrals are made only based on skill-based competency, not personal values. The ACA was more specific in stating the values of the counseling profession in the introduction; the enhancement of human development, diversity, and multiculturalism, social justice, the integrity of the counselor-client relationship and
Crucial ACA Code of Ethics Section A.1 is essential in developing the client and counselor relationship. The section covers primary responsibility, records and documentation, counseling plans, and support network involvement (ACA, 2014). A.1.a (ACA, 2014) states it the counselor’s responsibility to promote the welfare and respect the dignity of their clients. Failure to respect client’s dignity can cause the client to withdraw from counseling services or not each the clients counseling goal. A.1.b.
Summary Authors Hawkins and Clinton (2015) began the dynamic of the book sharing that the calling of the new Christian counselor, as our highest privilege and compelling responsibility, is to be distinctively Christian and thoroughly professional. In addition to keep up with advances in research and in the treatment fields of counseling, psychotherapy and pastoral care. (Hawkins & Clinton, 2015, p. 6). Hawkins and Clinton, (2015) shared the dynamic of the new Christian counselor in having a spiritual foundation with the integration of terminology of the counseling field and psychotherapy to target every aspect of an individual’s life in which they may be lacking. Within the book The New Christian Counselor: A Fresh Biblical and Transformational
The Affordable Care Act (ACA) is a major healthcare reform law that was signed into law by former President Barack Obama on March 23, 2010. The ACA was established to provide affordable and accessible healthcare to all Americans, regardless of their income, health status, or pre-existing conditions. Many political and legal battles have beem fought over its implementation, effectiveness, and constitutional right for its establishment. In the early 1990s, when President Bill Clinton attempted to pass a healthcare reform bill, republicans and the healthcare industry opposed of Clinton’s plan.
Summary In his exposé published in the Journal of Psychology and Theology, clinical psychologist and pastor Dr. Fernando Garzon (2005) utilizes a hypothetical case to examine a number of issues concerning a Christian counselor’s awareness of various interventions and ethical considerations regarding the application of Scripture in psychotherapy. Dr. Garzon (2005) states the challenges facing many Christian counselors are in developing treatment strategies that integrate the biblical principles of Bible reading and prayer (p. 113) into therapy. Dr. Garzon primarily focuses his writing on psychodynamic, psychoeducational, theoeducational, cognitive, behavioral, and affective directed analysis, as well as discerning how and when said ideologies

In this chapter, Tan discusses the code of ethics specifically for Christian therapists. He mentions the major categories that therapists must focus on are attitudes, knowledge, and skills. Specifically, it is culture, self-awareness, spiritual development, communication, assessment, diagnosis, and treatment (Tan, 2022, p. 450). It seems like the Christian therapist should consistently keep in mind the client’s religious views and set therapeutic goals that are up to the client, without the therapist’s influence. The Christian therapist's unintentional motivation and passion for Christianity and assisting clients to grow spiritually can backfire if the therapist is not careful to influence the client.
Informed consent is one of the first doctrines addressed in the American Counseling Association’s (ACA) Code of Ethics (2014): Clients have the freedom to choose whether to enter into or remain in a counseling relationship and need adequate information about the counseling process and the counselor. Counselors have an obligation to re¬view in writing and verbally with cli¬ents the rights and responsibilities of both counselors and clients. Informed consent is an ongoing part of the counseling process, and counselors appropriately document discussions of informed consent throughout the counseling relationship. (p. 4)
There are positives and negatives from nurses, patients, doctors and family members of these people. This act has been described as affordable, realistic, and genius but others tend to feel much different about it, almost opposite of what was said. I will be expressing both sides of the ACA as well as defining it
Considering the Questions After reading the Code of Ethics I believe that the most challenging for therapists to adhere to would be 3.9 gifts (American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, 2015). What constitutes as a gift? Receiving a card from a client, candy, and baked goods, something that was made? How will I know what is acceptable to accept and what is not? The explanation on gifts in the code of ethics says to follow cultural norms, but what if my norm is different than the client’s norm.
Counselors must be aware of their ethical and legal obligations when providing counseling services, such as those related to crisis prevention and intervention. This knowledge can guide the counselor in making appropriate decisions to best assist the client. The American Counseling Association Code of Ethics (2014) provides counselors with the core principles of autonomy, nonmaleficence, beneficence, justice and fidelity to guide them in decisions making. Furthermore, the following ACA (2014) ethical codes are applicable to crisis counseling: A.1.a. Primary responsibility.
When Christianity and counseling are combined the same goal remains: Spreading the true and undiluted, unaltered Word of God while providing the best therapy possible. Therefore, each Christian counselor must prepare daily for the sectarian attack of proposed ideologies that support “higher powers, spiritual awakenings, and understanding Him” (Alcoholics Anonymous World Services, 2001). “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world” (1 John 4:1, NASB). Awareness of self is highly important to all counselors as well as being aware of everything else that may ensnare clients or
The affordable health care act (ACA) has been a big topic for debate.
It is based on biblical truth and we believe this truth has the power to transform lives. This transformation is relevant to all, not just the counselee, but also the counselor. There are no shortcuts or quick fixes. We must be patient as we trust God to reveal Himself through the scripture and by loving each person we counsel, always pointing to the cross and giving God the glory for each victory.
