In “Christmas dinner without the cranberry sauce,” Billie Jo is talking about how she goes to her christmas dinner without her little brother and her ma. This poem is filled with imagery that create pictures in your mind because they are so detailed and descriptive. Wwhen Billie Jo says all the food that she is having for dinner that night, “We served turkey, chestnut stuffing, sweet potatoes, and brown gravy, made it all ourselves…” There are also many symbols in the poem that have a much deeper meaning.
