No one wants to be alone, so be willing to help your neighbors. Political cartoons are used to show images of what is going on in the world. Faces of Homelessness (Faces) by Phil Hands shows different ways people can be homeless. In Political Cartoon Constitution Homelessness (The scroll) by Chan Lowe shows that every living person in the world matters and has rights. From these two cartoons are stories that can be told about homelessness. Symbolism, word choice, and how cluttered or simple the cartoons are a few of the many ways to show how the world can interpret the meaning of the cartoon.
Through the different cartoons symbolism is used to be able to find the true meaning. The items that are displayed in the images are just one part of a puzzle. In Faces the pictures are very cluttered, but this is nice, because it does not need to be dived into to get to the point. Since the cartoon is cluttered it gives clues for what it is trying to say. Some of the hints line up in both pictures. Like how the boy at the school is the same boy sleeping in the car or to give a background of the person's life like the waitress. The variety of the different tasks used to show that homelessness is displayed in different settings of a person's life. Another hint that is given is how the cartoonist displayed the colors through the mess. In Faces the picture is so cluttered that the cartoonist needed to use bright colors so all the small details could be seen.
