Sprouted from the essence of the Republic of Genoa, now part of modern day Italy, a once undistinguished being perpetually protruded from the abyss of history. Although he was originally from Italy, Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue for King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella of Spain. Upon the discovery of this arrangement, copious amounts of questions arose from the public concerning why the Spanish monarchy would hire a foreign explorer, instead of a Spanish explorer, for such an important expedition. While the crown’s decision may seem dubious on the surface, the Spanish monarch realized the advantages of working relationships between foreign parties. Christopher Columbus was a renowned Italian explorer, navigator, cartographer, and colonizer. He was born on October 31, 1451 in the territory of the Republic of Genoa, where his moderately wealthy family was deeply rooted. Being the son of a weaver and wool merchant, he acquired a job on a merchant ship where he carried out his life as a mariner, only being a young, flourishing teenage boy.
