Christopher Columbus
Christopher Columbus was born in Genoa, Italy 1451. When Columbus was a teenager he got a job on a merchant ship. Columbus was at sea until the 1470s, when French buccaneer’s attacked the ship as it sailed toward north along the Portuguese coast. The boat sank and Columbus floated on shore on a piece of wood from the boat, and made his way to Lisbon. When he got to Lisbon he studied mathematics, astronomy, cartography, and navigation.

On Columbus first voyage he promised to spread Christian faith to the people of the East and return with gold, silver, and spices. Columbus took three ships Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria. He sailed to the Canary Islands, where repairs were made and more mood was taken aboard the ships. On August 3, 1492, Columbus objective was to sail West until he reached Asia where the riches of gold, silver, and spices awaited. Until September where he entered waters he had no charts for.

Christopher Columbus left for his second voyage on September 24, 1493. He left with 17 ships and about 1200 men with him. Columbus was going to conquer the Taino tribe and colonise the region.
