The Kiwanis Hi-Liters is a group of eighteen or so young performers between 7 and 18 who travelled to local convalescent homes and nursing homes each week from September to May in an effort to bring some joy to the elderly. Throughout these two-hour shows, there were performances from singers, musicians, clowns, and magicians. When I first started as the backstage manager my role was to ensure the audio technicians had the proper music for each performance prior to the start of the show, organizing the performers before their numbers and relaying pertinent information to the directors regarding any changes that needed to be made to the line-up because of unforeseen complications whether that was the performer was no longer available to do their
“I have the honor of serving as president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, an organization
As the event approached, I also ensured to reach out to all the participants to make sure that they were still available for the event. Other minor steps included actually creating the trivia content, advertising the event on the morning announcements, and spreading word of mouth. 2. How would you coordinate the logistics for a musical production? What challenges would you encounter and how would you overcome those challenges?
But I was surprised to see how involved the audience was in this, somewhat, demeaning comedy merged with an astonishing harmony of an eight-piece act. A lot of songs were played and sung during the performance. The band members’ voices were very beautiful, and they played their ukuleles alongside with perfection. Each member of the band sang, cracked jokes, played their instrument and introduced each other in an amusing way. The songs were played on different kinds of ukuleles including soprano, tenor, bass, concert and baritone, and each ukulele had a unique sound.
This phrase was a beautiful combination of the choir, soloist, violins, and
By volunteering at my local church and helping with local service projects, I have realized the commitment and perseverance it takes to lead by example. At my local church I continue to help with the organization of my youth group. After speaking at church staff meetings for several months we made it our goal to improve the youth group by ensuring that children and teens of all ages were included and had an opportunity to participate. I was able to create a system where teens who attended high school were paired with a middle school individual of the church. This provided a sense of inclusiveness and made the youth group more enjoyable for everyone.
One achievement that has greatly impacted my life, is the honor of being drum major for the marching band. Throughout the whole audition process, and the season that followed, I have learned important life skills, that will help me in the future. The first thing I learned was that practice pays off. While this is a commonly understood fact, this whole experience has really solidified that idea for me. When I first decided to audition, I attended classes to learn how to conduct.
I wish not to base my level of successfulness on the amount of money I earn or receive, but on the amount of heart I give to others and my work. Over the next thirty years my success will be reflected by a number of significant milestones that will lead me into a career in the music industry. The hard work and values my Ghanaian immigrant parents instilled in me has led to my academic success as I was constantly reminded of the value of education. Pushed to do better everyday, my parents were successfully able to build up a strong work ethic in me.
My senior year of high school I was appointed captain of my color guard team. This was unexpected for me, as I was one of the least able performers on the team. I could easily have named girls who were better than I was at our routines and more skilled than I was with our equipment. I felt uncertain that I would be able to be a good captain for my team, and nervous about the prospect of being responsible for their improvement. However, my director had confidence that I had the ability to motivate the team to be better, to organize them and their performance, and to unite us as a team.
On Saturday, March 12, 2016, the Illinois Valley Symphony Orchestra (IVSO) preformed in the Ottawa High School Auditorium. During the presentation four songs were preformed. Within the four songs came two separate solos. The solos were preformed by two young ladies that were still attending high school.
Most, if not all, of the performers in this group seemed to be experienced because they knew how to keep balance and rhythm throughout the different pieces. There were a few
It’s a perfect night for a concert, warm, calm, and overall elegant. On Friday, September 11 in the Nightingale Concert Hall, a fabulously performed concert called the Argenta Concert Series, The Fifth Anniversary Season, directed by Dmitri Atapine and Hyeyeon Park, took place. In this performance the following musicians performed; Stephanie Sant’Ambrogio on the violin, Dustin Budish on the viola, and James Winn on the piano. Not only that, there was also a guest appearance by Jonah Kim on the cello. Although not the best turnout, there was still a decent audience.
The deafening roar from the crowd filled my ears, as it had done so many times before. I reached down, picked up my ear pieces lying across my shoulders, and placed one in each ear. As the stagehand passed me the mic, my pulse quickened. Standing on the platform beneath the stage, waiting for it to rise, my shoulders tightened. Fourteen years, performing on stages around the world hadn't banished my pre-show jitters.
Lastly, the band consisted of cousins who happened to live in the same house but having different priorities. Some were still studying, while others were working. Our difficulty lay on our personal schedules, thus affecting practices. Thinking about it, it should have been easy for us to form a practice schedule because we were all living in the same compound, but it didn’t work out that way.
We played four songs, two of which were senior solo pieces. The
