Both movements had many similarities and differences and have affected socially and politically the United States .
These rights are protected by amendments that, once ratified by the states, cannot be changed unless they are repealed or altered by another amendment. Individual rights serve as a foundation for future amends or changes. Three of these amendments that are entrusted to the people are the right to keep and bear arms, the right to a trial by jury, and the right to vote regardless of race, color, or preference of religion. The right to keep and bear arms or the second amendment gives all citizens who qualify the ability to purchase and keep legal firearms. The right to trial by jury or the seventh amendment gives any citizen, regardless of the crime, the guarantee to a trial by court and an attorney to defend them.
There are ways to distinguish what your civil rights and civil liberties are. They have talked about them since they were put into place. Everyone seems to interpret them differently. I will first start off by saying civil rights and civil liberties have been debated and talked about in our government up to this day. They are still interpreting each part in our federalism government we have.
The Declaration of Independence is consider being one of the most important and innovative documents of history and was written after the independence of the United States from Great Britain. The Declaration of Human and Civic Rights played a fundamental role in the French revolution because it defined the rights of all men and all the citizens. There are many similitudes and differences between both documents. In these two documents, there is a reference of a Supreme Being.
Civil Liberties are basic rights protected in the Bill of Rights, Constitution, and through Supreme Court rulings. Civil Rights ensure an individual to be treated fairly and equally from the likes of government and other individuals. Civil liberties and Rights are both similar in that they protect the individual of rights of people, allowing society to function in a successful and reasonable manner. Both are essential in the modern world today in order to protect individuals from unfair treatment. Though being very similar, Civil liberties and Rights do have their differences as well.
Civil Liberties protect everyone from an overbearing government while Civil Rights protect certain groups or races. Also Civil Rights are based of a democratic government since they represent everyone that lives under that government while Civil Liberties come from a limited government where the people have momentous power and the government has certain restrictions over its power. 4 In 1833 in the court case of Barron v. Baltimore the court said that the Bill of Rights applied to the federal government, not to the states. They also said that every 4 American has dual citizenship.

Jefferson regards Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness as unalienable rights in the Declaration of Independence: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” –Thomas Jefferson. In my opinion, all that three things are the basic rights of people.
Between the LGBT movement and the civil rights movement there are some similarities. Both of these movements are fighting or have fought for the end of discrimination. The civil rights movement fought for the end of discrimination according to race or religion. The LGBT movement is fighting for the end of discrimination of gay men, lesbians, bisexuals and transsexuals in employment, housing and public areas. They are both wanting the end of discrimination.

Briefly, civil rights and liberties have always moved together, and their difference is complicated as people tend to use them in interchangeable way. However, their difference is that, civil rights is the equality that people demand for whereas, civil liberty is certain activities that government itself does not have the authority to do (Muller). For example, people should not be discriminated regarding their gender, race etc. is civil right, and the first amendment which says that government cannot establish America as any religious country is civil liberty. 2 So basically, civil rights protect people from discrimination while civil liberties protect the people from power of government.
